I don't do them. I really have only had one curiousity, and the man that conducted the study has stopped his research.

I have never had any real desire, because some of the shit I experience on a regular basis is hard enough to accept without the possibility of being high at the time.

I am also aware that I have an addictive personality, and the step from recreation to addict is usually a state of mind, with the exception of the nasty shit that seriously hoses your brain chemistry.

Also I wanted to say everyone in my family is clean and sober now and getting there lives back. When I say everyone I mean everyone. A good portion of my family is still poor and kind of white trash but they aren't drug addicts anymore.

Thanks for all of that.

Do you know why you think less of people who do drugs?

Do you think it's a weakness, or a waste, or what?

Also, glad you got out of the meth scene. I've seen several friends never come back from it.

I'm currently on Lamictal, Cymbalta, and Clonazepam, but my doc is thinking of throwin' an atypical in there somewhere...

If you don't use 'em, then why not?
Did you start and then stop?
Are you afraid of them?
Do you want to start but can't figure out how?
How do you feel when you find out that somebody you know does drugs?
Do you find yourself looking down on them or being envious?
What's that one drug story that you just have to tell us?

I don't use illegal drugs or cigarettes, and I don't misuse prescription drugs or alcohol. One of the reasons I don't even want to try the illegals is that I know that I addict pretty quickly -- witness my ongoing struggles to stay off of caffeine and sugar. So, yeah, I am kind of afraid of them.

On the other hand, I'm kind of intrigued by altered states. So if it were legal, I might try marijuana. And maybe, maybe, one of the hallucinogens, if I could get someone I trusted to supervise the trip. (I actually do know a couple of folks I could ask.) I'm told that 2001: A Space Odyssey makes way more sense if you're stoned or high when you watch it. I'm kind of wary of major felonies, though, so I don't go there ( ... )

What is it about prescription drugs that does it for you? I mean, I'm always astonished that people want my vicodin from my root canal.

Shit dulls my pain and that's it...

I never did drugs in my teens or 20s because I was scared of getting caught or hurting myself and my mother was working in government job with a clearance -- it would have mattered to her work if I'd been busted. I smoked pot, like, twice in college and grad school. I found it not worth breaking the law over, and preferred alcohol and caffeine ( ... )

Most importantly, I have a daughter and I have to be competent and available for her for the next 16 years, at a minimum. And if something were to happen to me while I was high, I can't imagine what message that would sent to her about how much I value her.

I always consider that to be the best possible answer to why somebody doesn't do them.

"Look, I have done them, and I'd love to do them again, but right now this small human being relies on me, and I can't even rely on me if I'm fucked up and think that the pencil drawer is my desk drawer is totally the best thing ever!"

As for getting busted, I've never really understood why people take the risk of doing stupid shit like riding a bike down the street while smoking a blunt.

YOU ARE GOING TO GET WHAT YOU'RE ASKING FOR.

Yep. Basically, I never, ever want my daughter to think being altered is more important to me than she is.

Mind you, I'm also not going to do that hypocritical thing where you lie to your kids about whether you ever did drugs. That ends badly.

My mama was pretty free about talking about it.
My papa had important info about booze, though.
