++ I really enjoyed that unpopular fandom opinions meme a while back. I think sometimes, especially with SPN, I get so tired of worrying about whether or not I'm going to harsh someones squee that just don't bother posting negative opinions. Although even more than that I really dislike the slippery slope effect that can happen, like, TO ME, when I ( Read more... )

UM. Is it bad that I saw Dean/Sarah and thought "Sarah WHO?" :/ She wasn't one of my favourite girls, tbh. Oh, well. Your picspam is PRETTY.

And yes, I'd love to see another girl on the show.

Well it's not bad to you if you don't like her, right? And I don't have strong feelings either way, so I think you're good. :p

I thought it was some crossover picspam at first! :P

But seriously, it's been three years!

Ah, my response wasn't there: "I don't even watch SPN, but I STILL want Dean to have a female love interest". Because every time I hear that there's nothing happening even three seasons after I gave up on the show due to this issue, I am more and more convinced that I made the right choice. And I find that sad, actually.

Yeah, I guess I was being generous by adding that "would be willing to check it out if" bit to what would have otherwise been your option.

Yeah, I think it's pretty clear that the complaints you have about the show haven't changed and aren't going to. I don't think you like the 'verse, the actors, or any one character enough to compensate for the things that bother you. Though, for the record I will never be happy about not getting to read SPN episode reactions from you! You're a blessing to any fandom you contribute to.

I think my SPN ship sailed with Jo. I never even finished watching her entire run, but I think it was because I was lukewarm to the show, and then the reactions of the fandom to her (both good and bad, because even those who liked her seemed to not particularly love the way she was handled on the show) turned me off the entire show completely. At this point, I just want you who are fans to get something good, you know? And Dean growing and changing and developing a new side to himself? Why wouldn't they want to write an arc like that?

But even moreso I was ecstatic to see so many people saying they'd like to see Dean have a connection/relationship with a girl that goes beyond his usual fuck and run.
And where exactly are these people?

TO BE FAIR, I MAY BE IMAGINING THEM. Or they might be that tiny group huddled in the corner trying not to get trampled.

I'm not a huge fan of ANY relationships in ANY of my TV shows. It has a tendency to get in the way or take over the story. I'm just not interested in that.

Okay, yeah, that's a really good point. I think all the focus on romantic relationships really hurt Angel. And there are lots of examples where individual character development suffered once a relationship was introduced. So, you're right, there's a bonus to the fact that the format of SPN keeps traditional romantic relationships off the table.

But I'd be happy if he developed a relationship with a woman that wasn't romantic, too. Like, I had really hoped they'd explore relationships with both the boys and Ellen. So it could be something like that. It's more that I think Dean's grown up with such a strong male presence in his life that I'd like to see how positive female influences might effect him. Romantic or otherwise.

IDK, when I imagine a het relationship on the show I tend to see it as a mini-arc like Gordon or Henrickson anyway. But, yeah, point definitely taken.

I didn't say anything at the time, but your opinions on SPN made me SO. DAMN. HAPPY. I agreed with you on all three counts, especially the Dean/lady stuff. In fact, I'm pretty sure I blathered to someone later how happy it made me, mainly because I so rarely see anything even remotely resembling my feelings on the show and you pretty much nailed them completely. And I guess I didn't realize how much I miss feeling like I'm not entirely alone in my tastes ( ... )
