Huckabees has its moments, but you know you're in trouble when the majority of the cast had no idea what the film meant. Parts of it were cloying and pretentious, and that tended to overpower the core message of the film for me.

But... Mark Wahlberg was pretty extraordinary. He was overlooked for every major award, which I chalk up to the inaccessibility of the film.

(I came here through moviebuffs, btw)

Welcome! Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I dont have many people to discuss movies with so this excites me Lol!
I agree that alot of parts most likely went over alot of the publics head.
Mark Wahlbergs character was definitely the best thing about the movie.
I love the scene when hes telling his daughter about the children that work in the factories and go blind 'just to make mommys shoes' haha priceless.

Personally, I love it when he's drilling the elderly Spanish woman about petroleum. And then, when he's going after Steve's father. He was truly excellent in this film, and it's the first time I've seen his as a serious actor. To follow it up with something like The Departed is...well, he's great ( ... )

Oh geez, The Departed is an amazing, amazing movie. I could go on and on about that movie lol.
I didnt know any of that about David O Russell. I would probably become very frustrated myself. I did rather enjoy Three Kings though.
I know most people weren't really fans of this movie, I always tend to be a fan of those crappy movies noone else likes. Lol
I was going to mention how much I liked the score of the movie! And the scene with Mark Wahlberg and Steves dad at the dinner table is probably the best in the movie. I actually posted a link to that scene on youtube up there^ =]

I LOVE I Heart Huckabees. What a great movie. You are right that not a lot of people really like it but I thought it was fantastic and now own it and have watched it waaaay too many times. In fact I like almost all of the same movies you have listed on your profile, as well as a lot of the same music, and I love to do the movie quote thing. I did something similar on mine. I am totally a movie buff and love to play any kind of movie games and quote movies all the time (sometimes too much I think to my friends annoyance). All of which is a little strange cause I am 34 and live in Iowa. But good taste has no age limits or geographical boundries as far as I am concerned and I would love to be friended on you LJ.
