Yesterday was absolutely gorgeous, and today is, too, so I've taken advantage of it and am gardening my little heart out. It's so much fun! We got some woodchips to put around the perimeter of the backyard to keep "mudfoot" (Abby) from tracking in every bit of squishy stuff from outside when it rains, and I got a little extra to use in the front

And, our front yard has 17 steps' worth of hill up to our front porch with 2 humongous old icky pine-needley trees that I have to work around. I've built the garden area around the front porch and along the front of the house around the trees. I've tried to be creative and put in curves and things. The butterfly bush was a gift from some coworkers a few years ago. It's super hearty, too!
We *definitely* do stuff on a budget, too! The woodchips we used were $2.78 for a 20 lb bag at WalMart. We bought 8 of them for both the front and back yards. And, I only spent maybe $15 on the irises and wildflower seeds. The rest was lots of labor - weeding and digging and raking.
