I ate burnt ends for the first time today and it's an intense experience. The pickles/onions helped to keep the smoke
build-up from being to much, allowing you to finish off the portions. The onion rings don't do as much. This is a must if
you're a bark [crust] lover. After eating this, you could drink your way through Kentucky and not feel it.

Last week’s Wednesday through Sunday saw me vacationing by visiting family, which is actually relaxing.
Maybe it’s the long drive, maybe it’s the beers drank later, no telling.

On the way down to el rancho, I thought I’d hit a much lauded BBQ joint - Salt Lick BBQ in Driftwood TX.
It was 30 minutes out of the way but when you’re driving from Dallas, that doesn’t matter much.

It regularly makes top 10/25/50 lists of Texas magazines and newspapers “best of” lists for BBQ.

Saturday was a “free” day, so I thought I would lay waste to it appropriately with a trip to Ft.Worth to meet up with Assurbanipaul for some beer at Rahr Brewing. We kicked it off with lunch at Rail Head BBQ.

The Saturday tastings at Rahr now average around 400+ people. Video recommended for DFW folks, otherwise it's just a warehouse full of people ( Read more... )

Met up with the Atheist group for dinner this evening at a BBQ joint in Dallas. Nothing too low down or dingy. However, some noises got my attention and a new riff for Jeff Foxworthy:

"If your ceaselessly screeching child wears no shirt in the restaurant, you might be white trash..."

Just south of New Hope, in Crossroads, Texas, a wedding featuring a shotgun & an industrial size bottle of Jack Daniels made my Saturday. Proper attire was boots and Wranglers. Boots were my only conformity, though I did leave out the nose ring.

This was a cool wedding in that it was treated as a party more than a formal ceremony.
