September 2010 Vacation Recap

Sep 21, 2010 22:41

Last week’s Wednesday through Sunday saw me vacationing by visiting family, which is actually relaxing.
Maybe it’s the long drive, maybe it’s the beers drank later, no telling.

Boozy First Day
Garrison Brothers Distillery [photo album]produces the first legally brewed bourbon in Texas. I missed out on the 100 proof pre-release
but enjoyed a sample while on the tour and I can tell you that it was very smooth given the firepower. Only 1,000 bottles were
put onto market and you had to hit the Texas Hill Country to get this. I even missed I but hard liquor WAS off my radar but not now…

November will be the proper straight bourbon release of the 2008 vintage. The soak they’ve gotten in the barrels is impressive
and I’m going to buy quite a few bottles for medicinal purposes. Health is very important.

Light Duty Only
With the tender elbow, I couldn’t engage in the usual chainsaw antics, so I road along with HermanoDiablo[“ranch manager”]
and cleaned PadreDiablo’s shop - this took most of a day which left me looking way dirtier than the effort exerted.

We took HermanaDiablo out to dinner for her 33rd birthday. I remember when she was brought from the hospital.
Where’s my false teeth…?

I read “Under the Banner of Heaven” in the morning/evening downtime and my disgust for religion is furthered, a
s is my shock at people’s lack of logic.

Pull My Pork
I headed to Austin on Saturday to hang with HermanoDiablo and hit the Draught House for a few new beers
-Southern Star’s smoked porter has me pining for cold weather beers.

BBQ overload on Saturday and Sunday - I’ll spare you the food porn but let’s just say I’ve got a few more pounds to melt off my carcass.
