Amsterdam Picspam the First: ICE SCULPTURE FESTIVAL!

Jan 07, 2017 16:05

After my Birthday I had a day off on which I once again didn't finish my Holiday cards... Then I worked for two and half days before I finally managed to do some festive arts & crafts on Friday afternoon, pfew. I delivered the cards to the Post Office on Saturday December 31st on my way to my mom, where I spent New Year's Eve. Some photos of our sparkles here.
A Making Of of the cards will follow once I know they have arrived. (I already heard they made it to the UK and Germany, yay!)

To start the New Year, I had taken another day off work; on Monday January 2nd I went to Amsterdam to hang out with brotherdearest. We went to the IceSculpture festival, this year's theme was Music Inspires.
Here are some photos of the awesome sculptures.

It was a gloriously sunny day, yet close to freezing. That was nothing compared to the temperature inside the hall though! Luckily the rocking sculptures, accompanied by all sorts of music distracted us from the cold;) Let's DISCO!

I was blown away by the sculptures; I especially loved the combination of clear ice with snowy ice, some artists created a truely wonderful effect with that.

All sculptures had splendid settings as well, here's punk (hey, Iggy!); the anarchy logo is carved out of the ice wall.
Aahw, a tribute to Prince and David Bowie. :'-(

A detail of a fancy carriage accompanying a scene in an opera.
How awesome is that movie-music set up?

To give you an idea of the size of these sculptures: here's my 6'2" brother next to a Gibson guitar:)
This huge lady with the jukebox was one of my favorites; check out her tattoos!

Seriously cool lady *chinhands*
Across from her sat a big baby Mozart, heehee.

Wait, whut? *giggles*

African music was represented by these singers, so smooth. I love how their earrings are transparent ice.
This trumpet has a slide behind it (for kids only, *pouts*)

We had fun walking along the Beatles on Abbey Road, taking the place of Paul McCartney *grins*

Adorable hearts surrounding the sculpture of Ariana Grande.
The peace sign in front of Jimmy Hendrix was decorated with flowers. Such great details!

What a magnificent event!

The Ice Sculpture Festival is open until February 5.

IT WAS SO COLD IN THERE! So afterwards we warmed up with hot chocolate and warm Apfelstrüdel with custard.
Then we went to Central Station to rent a bike for me and we cycled to brotherdearest house to chill and do some groceries before going back to the Station to meet up with Mom and her boyfriend J. who joined us for the Lightfestival Illuminade walk at nighttime. More about that later:)
