Each year, I try to see the local minor league team, the Iowa Cubs, Triple A affiliate of Chicago.

The Cubs are on the downslide after winning the 2016 World Series although I don’t know if those same architects are trying to repeat that success. There are some prospects in Iowa that could show up in Chicago

I had hoped to catch some Iowa Cubs games this summer, but only got one in. I was excited to see them do one game as the Iowa Caucuses, however that game did sell out, and won't get to see it.

Time for a post about the late season Iowa Cubs. I happened to catch a couple of late season games. The Iowa Cubs finished in last place and were not a very good team, but as the reason why is that the Chicago Cubs are filled with young talent, that is not something to worry about. One of my favorite summer pasttimes is watching the local minor league Iowa Cub team- the Triple A affiliate for the Chicago Cubs.

We caught two games in their final homestand.

Game 1 -
Iowa Cubs 3, Colorado Springs Sky Sox 2

Juan Perez hit a two run home run in the second, and the pitching looked good, but Sky Sox rallied in the 9th.

I share quite a bit of Iowa Cubs info here as they are the local minor league team. The Cubs have taken one of the best minor league organizations and turned into a playoff contender. One of my favorite things in Des Moines every summer is the Iowa Cubs ballgames. I write about it every year, and it has been nice to say that the wave of youth which has returned the Chicago Cubs back near the top came through here.
