Iowa Cubs- Round 3

Jul 21, 2022 19:18

I usually make at least one Iowa Cubs game and this year, I have made it to three.

The Chicago Cubs did a messy dismantling last year and it will probably be forgiven if they can rebuild. There’s talent in the Cubs minor system, but not a lot of top prospects in Iowa.

Or should I say, some are injured and most are pitchers, so it’s not guaranteed that you will see them.

In this case, it was a 32 year old on the mound, not quite a hot young prospect. But Matt Dermody is a local so that’s exciting. He has also had a ten year career that has been spent mostly in the minors or in Japan, so he’s definitely a story worth rooting for.

Dermody and one time Blue Jays hurler Thomas Hatch had a bit of a pitchers duel, with the Cubs coming out on top 3-1.

As far as prospects, reliever Eric Uelmen is on the list of probable future big league Cubs and closed out the 9th.

On the field, the most promising prospect is Centerfielder Greg Deichmann, who makes the bottom of some of the longer prospect lists, and it was Deichmann who hit the three run homer that decided the game.
