Broken: Hakozai, complicationsbeckyh2112July 22 2010, 01:30:32 UTC
I suspect you are the only person who has the context for this.
"You know," Ozai remarked between kisses, "I've been told sitting on my lap is more comfortable than kneeling on a stone floor."
Hakoda smothered the rest of the Fire man's words in another kiss. His hand dug into the hard wood of the wheelchair, and his knees were certainly complaining. He feared, though, even as he flicked his tongue against Ozai's, that his weight and the Prince's together would break the contraption.
Hot fingers tangled in his hair, and Hakoda pressed closer to the Fire man. Hard to believe that this man was the Firelord's own brother. When the children had told him the Mechanist had Iroh's brother, their half-remembered descriptions made him imagine another old dragon like the Firelord himself. Not this vibrant, bitter man so near Hakoda's own age.

O.O Broken-verse indeed.
*huffs in agitation* I would like to give the coherent well thought out specific praise but words are failing me in that area.
I really want to know how this all came about. Is there anymore of this anywhere or is it a hypothetical 'wouldn't-it-be-cool-if' discussed but never written AU?
Ozai, quiet contemplationbeckyh2112July 22 2010, 02:36:35 UTC
There is bread in his hands. The turtleducks quack anxiously, waiting for him to share it, but Ozai's gaze does not lift from the surface of the pond.
Firelord Azulon is dead.
It has been so many, many years since he called the man Father. Not since he was fourteen, when he finally realized he was the unwanted son, that he could never please Azulon. He was Azulon's disappointment, the son who should have been a daughter, the child who killed Lady Ilah.
More from the Las Vegas AU anything Ozai centric um... if you need something to work with... oh! "Just because you can't see the stars doesn't mean they aren't there."
Las Vegas: Ozai & Hakoda, "Just because you can't see the stars doesn't mean they aren't there."beckyh2112July 22 2010, 03:07:21 UTC
The swimming pool was still open at four AM. Hakoda was more shocked that he wasn't surprised by that than by the fact itself. Most of the lights were off, save for a few safety lights lining the path and the lights below the water in the pool itself. The light rising from the city below, though, kept it more than bright enough for a man used to the country.
He expected to be alone up there, but someone floated in the water. Said someone twisted in the water, and he saw it was the Asian from the roulette table. Ozai, the owner of the casino, according to the business card he'd left in Hakoda's pocket

Yay! So much better than what I could have done with the same prompt. *grins* So Hakoda did notice what Katara'd been doing, I like his mental assessment of the trip and how the piece isn't in Ozai's point of view. Also they way the prompt was included without actually stating it was nice as it's a fairly awkward sentence.
Ozai and Zuko, disappointmentsbeckyh2112July 22 2010, 03:32:35 UTC
Sozin's line is a line of powerful 'benders. It is their nature, intrinsic in their very selves. Flames reached to Azulon from the cradle, Iroh mastered blue fire younger than anyone before him, lightning played in Ozai's hands as a teenager.
The sons of Sozin are powerful firebenders.
Zuko is not.
"Breathe," Ozai says to the young boy, focusing on the candle between them. "Count the length of your breath, three in and four out. Grasp the flame, but don't let it burn."
It is an exercise Li and Lo led him through as a child. It took him a month to master, and that was without a single older firebender to show him what the firebending of it felt like.
He has been trying this with Zuko for three months.
A poisonous thought wends through his mind like smoke. Traitor's blood, Roku's blood, weakening the line of Sozin.
He shoves it away. "Breathe, Zuko."
His son breathes. In, out, in. He reaches for the flame.

That was a whole lot of effective in a little fic. <3 A very interesting look at Ozai that is going to have me thinking for a while, I think. I toss Ozai around in my head a lot, trying to imagine what could have been when Zuko mentions that they were happy once, and what made things change. This is an interesting piece to that puzzle.
Re: Ozai, disappointmentsgigabombJuly 22 2010, 03:42:47 UTC
... you know, it occurs to me that the way you write Ozai, he is completely unable to form emotional attachments to people who can't live up to his initial expectations/aren't geniuses/can't match him in some manner. I mean, in this fic Ozai still obviously has some hopes for Zuko even after being disappointed for three months, but it's only when Zuko displays a complete lack of talent that Ozai starts emotionally distancing himself from Zuko, if only subconsciously. I like that Ozai still does care for Zuko here, enough to spend months trying to teach him something basic, and the fact that Ozai seems the type to get easily frustrated when someone does not pick up on something as quickly as he expects means he is trying as a parent... but Ozai losing that connection because Zuko disappoints him so thoroughly explains a lot of their relationship and also a lot of why he cares about Lu Ten and Ursa (and Iroh, at least before his brother disappointed him as well) and why he seems sort of relationship-dead by the time he scars Zuko: one

Ozai/Tian, sweetsbeckyh2112July 22 2010, 04:09:22 UTC
Tian raised her eyes from the tart she was baking to find the Phoenix King watching her. He sat on the far side of the kitchen, perched atop sacks of rice. Intent eyes met her, and a shiver ran down her spine.
He was the most lovely, dangerous thing she had ever encountered. It scared her still to see him without bars between them.
A smile curved his mouth, and he stepped down from his perch. She dropped her eyes back to her tart, but she couldn't help but keep darting little glances at him as he strode towards her.
She eeped softly as his hand wrapped around her wrist, and her eyes went wide as he lifted her hand to his mouth. Then his tongue flicked out, licking powdered sugar from her fingers.
Her knees went weak as he pulled one finger into her mouth to suck clean.

*twines around and adores*
Thank you, darling.
I love how Tian is constantly aware of how dangerous Ozai is, and how Ozai is just so... I am not sure smooth is the right word here, but he's certainly Ozai.
Demons: Ozai and Lu Ten, enjoying lifebeckyh2112July 22 2010, 16:06:49 UTC
You may blame the arrival of my Detective Inspector Chen novels for this.
Lu Ten stroked one black-lacquered nail down a vein in Uncle's leathery wing. Both wings quivered, and Uncle turned a baleful gold eye on him. Lu Ten grinned unrepentantly and stroked over it again.
The subtle scents of an executive in the Ministry of Lust rose up, and Lu Ten inhaled them breathily. Even as high-ranking as he was in the Ministry of War, even with his father as the head of the damn ministry, he rarely got to be so close to one of the greater demons of Lust.
He had never understood how one of Grandfather's get had the clout and skills both to get into Lust, but they said Grandmother had been a beauty beyond the imagining of most demons. They said she'd set out to seduce the Minister of War and finest General of Hell, and she'd certainly succeeded.
Uncle looked like Grandfather. The same lean, tiger-striped body, the same brilliant gold eyes, the same cast of features. But Uncle was polished like a jewel, he was black lacquer and sweet-

*twines* Sexy kissing, sexy and delicious kissing. Hakoda will eventually figure out if Ozai's body 'works'.
