I'm playing the DS version that was released a few months back, so I'm playing in on my actual DS. I should play it on an emulator so I can go hunt down a game save from the internet or something. >_>

*brightens* Your favorite game, huh? :D

It was released earlier this year, yes! So hopefully it won't be too expensive to get anymore. This is my first time playing the game, so I don't even know what's in store at all (though, I have the PS1 version, I think, but I never got around to playing it before I grabbed the DS version), but I know a friend who's played both, so I'll ask her.

I swear, EVERYONE says how much they super super super loved CT and I'm kind of dying of curiosity over it.

Ooooh your first time playing CT? :D :D I wish I remembered more about it. I feel like you can still get Lucca back at some point after that, but I just don't remember it well enough. D: But I do think playing on an emulator would be a good idea just for the frequent saving. XD

I'm excited to know what you think about the game overall! :D :D

I've heard of Chrono Trigger before, of course, but this will be my first time playing it! Everyone who's played it seems really blown away by it, so I'm super curious to see what everyone loves.

I would think there should be a way to get Lucca back, but I have no idea how. And so I'm not sure if I should just start over now (which would also mean constantly having to have a walkthrough open) or just forget on from here.

I hate making decisions! D:

on that Rev Wings mission I don't think you're supposed to actually fight the monsters?? I just put everything I could on Vaan to boost his walking speed, put the ability that boosts his speed on gambit, and had him rush over to the tree to gather the fruit. He managed to get it before the Golems killed him. We are fearless heroes.

*checks the guidebook* Guidebook says you can do either, that you can pull one out at a time and defeat them that way or you can just skip over them all together.

To be honest... as much as I bitched about it, it was more the unfairness of the idea more than that it was actually hard. As long as I kept my ranged and melee guys out of the way and just had Filo and Lluyd attack, I actually managed to deal with about six of them at once and nobody died or anything.

Granted, I did use Vaan's Quickening, but that only took a quarter hp off them at MOST and all my characters were level 45-48, so... idk. (Though, I did leave the top half of the screen because I was tired of fighting all that shit.)

Also, I think it's TOTALLY CHEAP that the yarhi LEVEL WITH YOU as you go, HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO SQUASH EVERYTHING WITH MY OVER-LEVELED MIGHT THAT WAY?? >:|

pfft. EASY WAY OUT FOR ME.

It really sucks though, I could never really make use of Filo -- yes she and Lluyd were my only flyers, and she's fast as hell, but she just dies so easily. Not even getting into the fact that they give you about six ranged characters and just two of the other classes. Penelo, Lluyd, Kytes, and Basch were the mainstays of my party; the first two can heal and resurrect characters and the last two can smash. I think for my remaining slots I cycled through Vaan and Balthier. Only having three characters with damage-dealing Quickenings isn't fun.

Have you encountered Midlight's Deep yet? That is when the game stops even pretending to be balanced. I play that to level whenever I feel like picking up the game -- go as far as you can before total party kill, collect your pity EXP, repeat. And everyone's favorite cheapass bonus boss awaits you at the end, and is seemingly EVEN CHEAPER than the last incarnation.

I'm in pretty much the same boat. Not that I don't love the other characters, but ranged characters are rarely all that useful when most of them only attack one target at a time, but Kytes will attack an entire group. What the hell is the point of the other ranged characters when he takes out everything that flies already? The sheer number of them drives me crazy, too.

The only thing I can figure is that even the game went, pft, yeah, we all know you're just going to use a Vaan/Penelo/Llyud/Kytes/Basch team, so we're not even going to bother making the rest of the cast useful to you.

I haven't gotten to Midlight's Deep yet, no. ....how much pity exp do you get for that place? Not that I don't mind the offer, game, but it's usually about a tenth of what I'd get if I succeeded and for that I might as well just go run through the Giza Plains again one more time.

I DO NOT WANT TO FACE ZODIARK. I AM SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING JUST NOT GOING AFTER THAT FUCKER. D:

You don't have to start over! You can't miss any of the characters except the last one who doesn't pop up for ages. There's very little that you can permanently fuck up in this game-- you won't really need a walkthrough until at least halfway. If you're worried, start alternating your saves. But anyway, Lucca would have gone off your team again ANYWAY, it just would have made that part of the game a little easier.

*relieved* Oh, good, because I really didn't want to have to start over, that was kind of killing things for me. But I can deal with the next part of the game being a little more difficult for it, since I tend to level-grind to overcompensate anyway.

It's just that I was checking a walkthrough and it kind of made it sound like I'd permanently fucked up my game if I didn't get her back right away, so, you know. Panic. _o_

Okay, having glanced at my Japanese guide book, because I vaguely recall busting out myself one time when I played it and not having a problem but thought I should check, it has a question about whether you should wait or bust out, and the difference is just that you have to fight this boss by yourself if you bust out.

.....oh, okay. That's really not a big deal then! And no wonder I couldn't find any answers with Google about how to get her back, since apparently you get her back anyway. orz But that's good to know, now I don't have to worry so much about following a walkthrough and can just futz around with it, I kind of enjoy that.

(Also, I've started playing Peggle on the DS. I blame this on you because I wouldn't have played it if you hadn't talked me into getting that special cart.)
