on that Rev Wings mission I don't think you're supposed to actually fight the monsters?? I just put everything I could on Vaan to boost his walking speed, put the ability that boosts his speed on gambit, and had him rush over to the tree to gather the fruit. He managed to get it before the Golems killed him. We are fearless heroes.

*checks the guidebook* Guidebook says you can do either, that you can pull one out at a time and defeat them that way or you can just skip over them all together.

To be honest... as much as I bitched about it, it was more the unfairness of the idea more than that it was actually hard. As long as I kept my ranged and melee guys out of the way and just had Filo and Lluyd attack, I actually managed to deal with about six of them at once and nobody died or anything.

Granted, I did use Vaan's Quickening, but that only took a quarter hp off them at MOST and all my characters were level 45-48, so... idk. (Though, I did leave the top half of the screen because I was tired of fighting all that shit.)

Also, I think it's TOTALLY CHEAP that the yarhi LEVEL WITH YOU as you go, HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO SQUASH EVERYTHING WITH MY OVER-LEVELED MIGHT THAT WAY?? >:|

pfft. EASY WAY OUT FOR ME.

It really sucks though, I could never really make use of Filo -- yes she and Lluyd were my only flyers, and she's fast as hell, but she just dies so easily. Not even getting into the fact that they give you about six ranged characters and just two of the other classes. Penelo, Lluyd, Kytes, and Basch were the mainstays of my party; the first two can heal and resurrect characters and the last two can smash. I think for my remaining slots I cycled through Vaan and Balthier. Only having three characters with damage-dealing Quickenings isn't fun.

Have you encountered Midlight's Deep yet? That is when the game stops even pretending to be balanced. I play that to level whenever I feel like picking up the game -- go as far as you can before total party kill, collect your pity EXP, repeat. And everyone's favorite cheapass bonus boss awaits you at the end, and is seemingly EVEN CHEAPER than the last incarnation.

I'm in pretty much the same boat. Not that I don't love the other characters, but ranged characters are rarely all that useful when most of them only attack one target at a time, but Kytes will attack an entire group. What the hell is the point of the other ranged characters when he takes out everything that flies already? The sheer number of them drives me crazy, too.

The only thing I can figure is that even the game went, pft, yeah, we all know you're just going to use a Vaan/Penelo/Llyud/Kytes/Basch team, so we're not even going to bother making the rest of the cast useful to you.

I haven't gotten to Midlight's Deep yet, no. ....how much pity exp do you get for that place? Not that I don't mind the offer, game, but it's usually about a tenth of what I'd get if I succeeded and for that I might as well just go run through the Giza Plains again one more time.

I DO NOT WANT TO FACE ZODIARK. I AM SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING JUST NOT GOING AFTER THAT FUCKER. D:

Midlight's Deep is an optional mission once you get to the last chapter, and basically it's structured in several parts -- you can save after each one, and get experience for each that you beat, and even the pity exp for when I kick it on the fifth or sixth part is still enough to make someone level each time I go through. They love to abuse shitty tricks in that mission, though, like "no summon gates! no summons period actually! ok defend your life crystal against these level 3 espers now".

Ohoho, Zodiark's an entirely different mission than this. Your old friend Yiazmat waits at the end of Midlight's Deep. You need to do this dungeon (fully, meaning defeating Yiazmat) twelve times to fully power up Vaan's sword Anastasia. It's a little cruel.

WHAT? WHAT? YIAZMAT IS IN THIS FUCKING GAME? AWL:DKJASDL:KJA *SHRIEKS OF INCOHERENT RAGE* A:LSKDJALSKJ FUCK YOU GAME I DON'T NEED THAT FUCKING TRAUMA ALL FUCKING OVER AGAIN, DO YOU FUCKING HEAR ME!?!?

*deep breaths*

Okay. Okay. I guess I can deal with it if it's a good place for leveling but alsdkfjasljk thanks for killing what little joy I had left for the gameplay of this game. I mean, I'm getting used to it and all, but I still cry foul at the characters being locked into their roles and only getting to have ONE gambit turned on at a time.

And I hate Summon gates. The ENTIRE GAME is structured around you using a shitload of Summons, THAT IS WHAT THEY TEACH YOU TO PLAY LIKE, and then they punish you for it! Jerks.

asdl;fkjasljk fucking Yiazmat. *mutters*

He still has his instant-death swipe, too. Doesn't that sound like a barrel of laughs???

Oh, hell, I only use it for leveling. I wasn't invested enough in the game to go for 100% completion -- the bonus vid you get at the end is cute (...watched it on youtube...) but so not worth it.

It is so very shitty when they lock out summons, as that is how the gameplay is structured in this game. You can't solo in it, you're meant to summon a little esper army. So taking them away is...well, I'm preaching to the choir here, I know. There's another optional mission in that area where you're not allowed to use espers (and you only get three characters! dhgdkjhk), buuut that one somehow didn't annoy me nearly as much as it could have because it has another old friend from FFXII whom I love dearly. Despite his stupid tricks.
