Metro Elevators are on Strike?

Dec 01, 2016 16:16

There are 88 stone steps coming up out of the Capitol South metro station, and the other day all the up escalators stopped moving right about the time I got to their bases, so I pulled out my umbrella, put my black-n-pink backpack on my shoulders as per manufacturer's suggested usage, and gingerly walked up four flights of stairs. I went carefully ( Read more... )

Cool, now just do that twice a day every day! Seriously, were you singing "20 Flight Rock" on the way up?

Hahaha, singing while climbing stairs. I should just climb those stairs every day as practice, shouldn't I? In all seriousness, now that I can do it without feeling like I'm about to die.

A good fitbit day! chhinnamasta December 2 2016, 20:26:53 UTC
Hooray! What's up with the foot? I've had plantar fasciitis, which really got in the way of any foot related activity, let me tell you! Thank God that cleared up. Congratulations on the weight loss.

Are you fitbitting? I've not had plantar fasciitis, although I have heard it's awful. Excellent that it cleared up.

Mine is nerve problems from long ago lumbar injury antagonized by flopping down a flight of stairs last year. The left foot drags sometimes, at random, which can make stairs a little scary; I have to be thinking about my feet and where they are on uneven ground. It helps to have my eyes down, on the stairs, as I climb or descend. I should have gone in for physical therapy last year, maybe.

Not being able to rely on one's left foot sounds scary! I've had dreams where I'm crossing the street, my foot gives out just as I'm about to set foot on the curb, whereupon I crumple to the ground and succumb to traffic. No fun in the dream world, and far less so in real life, I imagine!

I was fitbittiting, but am now activity tracking using Apple watch. I think Fitbit is superior, but the Apple watch can do other things, and how many of these devices do I want to wear at a time? I think one is plenty. However, I would recommend fitbit to anyone new to activity tracking. I think the Apple watch is far too discouraging. For example, I do a daily high intensity indoor cycle (30 miles worth, at least), and Apple watch tells me I've burned approx 400 calories, whereas the bike reports I've burned 1400... a bit of a disparity there!

The furtherest I ever went into mechanical monitoring is those step-counters that rely on the back-n-forth motion to count; iwatches is way out of my league in terms of self-monitoring. I still write down things in a little moleskin book, in fact, but I see colleagues with iwatch equipment talking about number of steps, etc.

I miss the exercise bike! It's so invigorating. Enjoy!
