If you can afford it, I started using the Nioxin system. My hair looks amazing, but it does actually make it a little fly away (which might be good for your roots) so I have to add a deep conditioner.

throw the aveeno out. I bought that shampoo because it was aveeno and I use a lot of their products. I have oily hair and my hair is fine.
the aveeno shampoo dried my scalp and hair out so badly, my scalp actually hurt and my hair felt like it had been fried.
right now I'm using Aussie awesome volume 2 in 1 and treseme 24 hour body shampoo and conditioner. both works ok, but it's the best I've found lately.

vinegar might help if you have residue issues, dilute it about 1:4 with water. it won't smell like vinegar when it dries.

what do you mean by residue issues? like there's buildup of product in my hair so it causes it to become more oily? thanks!

yep. Fine hair tends to respond very quickly to build up. When I use products that can build up my hair looks oily super fast, as in hours. Normally I go a week between washing, so it is definitely the products that do it, not my scalp.

I remember you were the poster over a year and a half ago that advised me on how to manage my hair since you also had fine/thin hair.. I really want to thank you for that, because your advice really did help a lot. After I started using Trader Joe's shampoo my hair became a lot better, but I'm not really sure why I stopped using it a few months ago. I think it was because my hair started to smell a little weird, but I'd rather have that than oiliness. Do you still use Spa Nourish, or are you using something else?

I just bought a bottle of apple cider vinegar from Trader Joe's that has been diluted to 5% acidity. Should I still dilute it 1:4 or less or not at all? And do you just put it in a spray bottle and spray it over your hair and then rinse?

Sorry for all the questions, but it's nice to talk to someone who has the same type of hair as I do, since most of my friends only struggle with having thick hair. Thanks again!

1. agreed with caliginous about the vinegar rinse. I do this every few months and my hair is so shiny after. I've also done baking soda, and massaged it into wet hair ( ... )

How exactly do you do the vinegar rinse? I actually have a bottle of Trader Joe's apple cider vinegar and the ingredients say that it's diluted with water to 5% acidity--whatever that means. Should I still dilute it to 1:4 as caliginous said? And would I just put the mixture in a spray bottle and spray it all over my hair, or something? I've never done a rinse before so I'm not entirely sure ( ... )

I dilute mine still. I am so paranoid of the smell, but once you rinse it, it's fine. Even my smell sensitive husband is okay. Anyway I do about a 4 to 1 ratio (I'm sure i got this from caliginous but I'm not precise. Then I put it into a small bottle and take it into the shower with me. I kind of dump it on my hair and work it in. A spray bottle would also work well (I just don't have one). Technically teh bottle i use is an old hair dye bottle, shaped kind of like a ketchup bottle ( ... )

It sounds like we have the same hair type, except mine is color treated. I'm taking advantage of the winter months and only shampooing twice a week, at most. Everyday I condition it and run some Burt's Bees shampoo through the areas where my hair touches my face. I try to concentrate on the roots and don't shampoo the length everyday. My hair is so much less oily and it actually styles the way I want it to.

I tried the tea tree shampoo from Paul Mitchell and I hated it. I got the same results. I really like Sally Beauty's version of Biolage. I like a lot of the shampoos there.
