1. agreed with caliginous about the vinegar rinse. I do this every few months and my hair is so shiny after. I've also done baking soda, and massaged it into wet hair.

2. How often are you washing your hair? Once I weened myself from daily washings, my hair didn't seem to get oily as fast. I used to think I absolutely had to wash my hair every day. The first few weeks are a little weird. I started to wash every other day, and now I wash at most 2-3 times a week. I've gotten to once a week, no problem. My hair doesn't smell, and seems to be in better shape now. For all of the dying I've done in the past (slowly am cutting back on that), my stylist compliments me on my hair - all the friggin' time. Cutting -cones out also helped. (also, fwiw, I tried a sample of the Aveeno shampoo and it sucked. My scalp felt itchy).

3. I like Trader Joe's shampoo/conditioner (and it's so cheap), and also Lush's shampoos and conditioners. For fine/oily hair check out Lush's shampoo bars in Seanick or Ultimate Shine. I feel like Seanick is a little bit better for volume but both will make your hair nice and shiny. Big shampoo is also really nice and has a cool texture. I like their Veganese conditioner.

How exactly do you do the vinegar rinse? I actually have a bottle of Trader Joe's apple cider vinegar and the ingredients say that it's diluted with water to 5% acidity--whatever that means. Should I still dilute it to 1:4 as caliginous said? And would I just put the mixture in a spray bottle and spray it all over my hair, or something? I've never done a rinse before so I'm not entirely sure :(.

I wash my hair every day. I've gone weeks at a time washing it every other day, and when I was using Trader Joe's shampoo it was pretty okay, didn't get noticably greasy or anything, but I felt a little gross whenever I'd touch my hair because it felt thicker with grease. Maybe I should go back to that, though. On the days that you don't wash, do you wear a shower cap or just rinse off your hair?

Are you referring to the Spa Nourish S&C by Trader Joe's? I'm thinking about actually going back to that one.. I don't really remember why I decided to change. Maybe I just wanted to try something new, no idea. I was actually thinking about checking out Lush's BIG as well, but I heard it's best to use about once a week only.

Out of curiosity what kind of hair do you have? And sorry for all the questions.. most of my friends have either thick hair or no problems with their hair at all, so I have no one irl to really ask for advice, haha. Thanks for your help!

I dilute mine still. I am so paranoid of the smell, but once you rinse it, it's fine. Even my smell sensitive husband is okay. Anyway I do about a 4 to 1 ratio (I'm sure i got this from caliginous but I'm not precise. Then I put it into a small bottle and take it into the shower with me. I kind of dump it on my hair and work it in. A spray bottle would also work well (I just don't have one). Technically teh bottle i use is an old hair dye bottle, shaped kind of like a ketchup bottle.

I feel like when I switched to not washing as much, there was a curve to getting my hair used to it. There were defintely a few days when my hair was a little greasy and I just tossed it up in a twist, or two braids and dealt. When I don't wash, I tend to twist my hair up and skip the shower cap(I try to avoid the spray of the shower with my hair). Or I just dont' shower. As long as I haven't gone to the gym, I'm not super gross. Sometimes I'll take a bath. I've also done a bit of rinse with my hair, but the days i skip washing I tend to be in more of a hurry so putting it up, and avoiding the spray works well for me. I still might get it a bit wet, but not enough that it will be soaking. I also like to curl my hair (I use hot rollers), and leave the rollers in while I take a bath. I feel like the heat helps them set.

yes! I like the Spa Nourish stuff. I had to run and check my shower. I only use Big once a week or so. A friend said it dried her scalp out, but she was usign it more often. I do also know if you dye your hair it fades a LOT quicker with Big.

My hair is long and fine. Right now it's layered, with the longest to about my boobs and the shortest just below my chin. It's long enough that I can pull it all back into a pony with no issues (great for the gym). If I do a twist, a few pieces fall loose near my face. It used to be oily but not so much any more. Not sure if that's more about my body changing or switching up how I wash it.
