Coloured Contacts + Dark Eyes??

Aug 13, 2009 21:35

Hi everyone, I'm Chinese and have dark brown eyes.

I really want bright blue contact lenses but don't want to lose £20 if they don't actually work!

Anyone have any recommendations or warnings against certain makes?
Thank you~!

By "work", what do you mean?
If you want them just for color changing, then they should work.
If you have a vision problem then you would need to get colored contacts with a prescriotion. Without it they won't "work".
Unless you mean something else?

As in, the contact lenses won't change the colour of the dark eye, they'll just tint it slightly and you can only tell if someone shines a torch in your eye. I know some brands are much better than others at covering dark eyes but I'd rather hear from people's personal experience.

i know a bunch of indian girls--who all have very dark brown eyes--that use colored contacts. you can tell its not their natural eye colors just because its rare to see an indian girl with bright blue or green eyes, but you certainly cant see their natural eye colors.

Let's just say that'll be really obvious that they're not real. My friend James is Chinese and well, while we were on a school trip in San Francisco he lost his glasses and only had bright blue contact lenses...it's really obvious, especially since they might slip out of place on your eye. :( I stared at him for the ride of the elevator in the hotel until he sheepishly explained what happened XD its still pretty funny but I'm gonna say its probably not worth it if you want it to look real.

Oh, I don't mind them not looking real (especially as that's my intention, I'll be wearing a silver wig too! :D). If his were really obvious and a bright blue... is there any chance you know which brand of contacts he was wearing? XD

I remember reading on a different makeup forum that Solotica contacts are great for dark eyes... I think you can only order them from Brazil (or someplace in South America) though. I have no idea personally if they work well or not, I have light eyes and have never used contacts either. Maybe try googling them?

Solotica is an AMAZING brand. The only reason why people were able to tell they're fake because because of 1) the rim of the contact lenses that will show up whether the lenses are clear or colored, and 2) they've seen me without.

If you're willing to spend the money ($80-100USD), they're mighty worth it! I was heart broken when mine got torn.

There are two types of coloured contacts: tinted and opaque. Opaque lenses will effectively cover dark eyes. Your best bet is to go to a store and an associate or optician will recommend the best brand for you.

There is a big debate online on whether circle lenses (brands like Geo) are safe or not. For those of you reading and don't know what these are, you will find a lot of websites on them if you search google. I wouldn't recommend these because their curvature might not fit your eyes and I have heard from many people that they feel irritating within a couple of hours. If you know your eye curvature and they match these lenses, it's really up to you, but there is also the risk that you will be sold immitations online (they seem to only be available in store in Asia) that leak dye onto your eyes.

Leaking dye? Damn, that sounds awful. I've seen Geos in real life and couldn't actually tell unless I was about 1 foot away from the person. They're more for the excentuating dark rim than the colour I think. I talked to my optician today but they didn't actually seem to know much about coloured lenses but said they'd order and fit them for me. Thanks for your help!

Geo sells coloured circle lenses, that are grey, blue, violet or honey coloured with a black ring. They look kind of cool so I hope they start selling them in other countries.

Did your optician mention a brand? I've been thinking of trying Acuvue Colours since they seem to be pretty popular. Apparently the website has a coupon for a free instore trial so you can see how they look on! Hopefully the coupon is valid in the UK (and Canada for me lol).

I use circle lenses sometimes (maybe once a week on the weekend) and have been fine. You can check out pictures and more information on my blog: http://pink-glass-heart.blogspot.com/

There's always a risk with everything so definitely do your research. However, if you buy authentic lenses which have been KFDA approved, then you should be ok. The KFDA is just the Korean equivalent of the FDA and these lenses are perfectly legal in Korea.
