There have been a few posts recently about losing weight and I've seen a lot of inaccurate comments made. I just thought I would give some factual recommendations ( Read more... )

God bless you. I have so many friends that stick to fad diets. I hate them. Working out and eating healthy. That's the only way to lose weight and keep it off.

I wanted to add one more thing, can you include something about the average amount of calories a person has to take in in order to actually lose weight? And if you work out - you should eat those calories back? All of that work will mean nothing if you're not eating enough calories.

Good points - not all of them are realistic for the entire human population (like, the "less Diet Coke" and "sleep more" bits.. if I could do that, I would - but it's not that easy), but I digress..

I agree entirely with #5. Absolutely no one is flawless. Yes, some celebrities have great skin even in untouched, up-close, paparazzi shots, but even theirs isn't perfect 24/7.

getting adequate sleep is my most difficult problem. i replaced Diet Coke with the crystal light packets. then i halved the packets, and now i'm drinking 102 ounces of water like my previous diet coke habit. i saw immediate differences in my skin and energy level. now, a diet coke tastes exactly like what it's made out of and i can barely swallow it.

yes, some people in general have great skin. but not to the level that you see on advertisements. celebrities also have nutritionists, personal chefs, and can visit the salon quite more frequently than us commoners.

Yeaaah, I have alpha-EEG anomaly, which means that when my brain enters REM sleep, it starts functioning like it's entirely awake. Meaning most of my sleep isn't restful, and I wake up often. The only way I can have a job, go to college, be a functioning human being is to load up on caffeine in any and all forms. Otherwise, I would walk around in a fog, be unable to drive without getting into an accident, and have absolutely no financial security.

could you take ritalin? i know that they prescribe it to people with daytime drowsiness and narcolepsy.

Also I want to add a few tips of my own:

1) Avoid simple carbohydrates. They crash your system because they break down too quickly. This is: white bread, white pasta, sugar, etc.

2) Eat complex carbohydrates. Includes: wheat bread, wheat pasta, all those healthy stuff.

3) Replace a few meals that are heavy on meat with vegetarian meals. I'm not saying this because I'm a vegetarian, but I notice I lost a few pounds when I switched. Also, when you do that, you're going to eat more veggies/etc. so it's all good.

good point! I entirely forgot about my carb point. there is a huge difference between good and bad carbs. your body NEEDS carbs to function. your brain works off of carbs. just eat the good carbs: whole grains, fruit, vegetables.

take white rice, bread, and pasta out of your diet. replace with wheat but eat in limited quantities.

Yeah, I just wanted to make sure people aren't scared of carbs because they're necessary. Cutting out carbs is bad. Just cut out the unhealthy stuff!

yes, i'll be happy when this "no carb" phase passes. it's scary.
