Hello! It's been a long time since I've posted, but I've been reading all along. I've decided to break my posting fast with another invasive question ( Read more... )

May I ask if your cat is an indoor cat and, if so, why she isn't she de-clawed?

Having said that, I'd say get the leather if you really like it. You can lay comfortors across the arms or wherever she likes to stratch.

And keep a spray bottle of water handy. If she starts stratching just give her a good squirt. She'll get the message eventually.

She is an indoor kitty - I live in the middle of a town, and there's too much traffic to let her out. As for declawing, I'm not a fan. A friend is a veternarian and very against it- she's told me it's akin to amputating a finger at the first knuckle, and that it can create other problems, like biting (although mine's a fan of that anyway :sigh).

Thanks for the water-bottle suggestion - in addition to being affective, it also sounds entertaining. ;)

I like the idea of upholstery because it's cozier, but I'm betting that either would look lovely in your space.

It's not like it can look much worse. :)

i'm going with upholstery b/c its nice and squishy, and leather takes a long time to soften up.

and i second the squirt bottle. i just have to have the bottle in my hand to assure perfect behavior :)

We got new furniture when Irish was younger, and she had destroyed our old furniture her very own self. We got fabric, because no matter what we sprayed on leather, Irish could NOT resist trying to tear it up. But we got the fabric, and sprayed the "no scratch" stuff from the vet's office on it. No stains from that, and after a month or two she didn't even try to scratch it when it didn't have the smell of that on there.

Plus, leather is sticky to sleep on in the summer. ;)

Since Miss P destroys all my furniture, I kind of lean toward C, although I guess really more B, since I suspect that would make you less upset if/when Babs gets at it. Then again -- maybe she wouldn't really claw at leather? Hmm.

I'm trying to decide which would look the worst if she did claw it.

She assures me she'll leave it be, but I think she's lying.
