Hi all,
I have a question.
Are there any rumors about 'La Cage aux Folles' DVD with John - are they planning to do it?
I would love to have one, and it would be a logical marketing decision, really, but I've never heard a word.

dvd releases, discussion

I see.
It's a pity. Though I would love a cast CD, too...

I asked when I was at the theater and the news then was that there would be no cd or dvd, unfortunately. Of course, that is official news. They might be plotting something unofficially...

It's really a pity. I actually hope they a plotting something and don't want to announce it until the end of the run...

I think I recall from news on John's mailing list that he is putting out two new albums soon, one with musicals and then the next one is movie songs. If enough people let him know (and especially the records company...) that they'd like La Cage songs on the musicals album it might happen. CD is after all more likely than a DVD.

I would think it highly unlikely. Whilst a dvd or new cast recording would sell well they very very rarely do a dvd of a West End musical and certainly not one that is so far along in its run (La Cage actually closes in January in the West End before going on a regional tour). Nor do I see them doing a cast recording for the same reason - I mean the UK casts of Wicked, Avenue Q, Hairspray etc didn't even get their own recordings.

So very unlikely.

I didn't know about it closing in the West End but I know for sure that the regional tour is not going ahead.

Its due to close in the West End in January (Hodges and Lawson are back as Albin and Georges before Hodges transfers to Broadway with the production)and supposedly the tour is set to take place in Autumn 2010.

Yeah, I knew it was going to Broadway but didn't realise it was closing over here. What a shame! The tour was meant to be starting in February but it was cancelled 'due to casting' issues. My cousin was meant to be in it (presumably as a Cagelle as he's a dancer) but got let down.

I imagine the answer to that is not a chance. Occaisionally they do a cast recording but if they did its is usually an original cast thing. It would be nice bit can't see it happening myself.

The biggest fool is one who doesn't hope. I'll hope even if the naysayers tell me not to. They obviously know more than I do.

I'd love to have one. It doesn't matter what the casting, because the show would be great to see in any capacity. But God knows, anything that would please the masses is usually a no-go ...

Well one can hope of course but I'm not sure where the bizarre reference to naysayers is coming from? Noone is trying to harsh anyone's squee simply stating from experience how sadly unlikely it is that a cd or dvd is to be produced of the current run of John and Simon ( ... )

I think you're confusing logical reasoned statements of fact with being mad.

Cute picture though.
