Hi all,
I have a question.
Are there any rumors about 'La Cage aux Folles' DVD with John - are they planning to do it?
I would love to have one, and it would be a logical marketing decision, really, but I've never heard a word.

dvd releases, discussion

I would think it highly unlikely. Whilst a dvd or new cast recording would sell well they very very rarely do a dvd of a West End musical and certainly not one that is so far along in its run (La Cage actually closes in January in the West End before going on a regional tour). Nor do I see them doing a cast recording for the same reason - I mean the UK casts of Wicked, Avenue Q, Hairspray etc didn't even get their own recordings.

So very unlikely.

I didn't know about it closing in the West End but I know for sure that the regional tour is not going ahead.

Its due to close in the West End in January (Hodges and Lawson are back as Albin and Georges before Hodges transfers to Broadway with the production)and supposedly the tour is set to take place in Autumn 2010.

Yeah, I knew it was going to Broadway but didn't realise it was closing over here. What a shame! The tour was meant to be starting in February but it was cancelled 'due to casting' issues. My cousin was meant to be in it (presumably as a Cagelle as he's a dancer) but got let down.

Your poor cousin! Lets hope they pick up the tour at some point next year. Its a great show it deserves to live on in some form.

I see. Thanks for information.
I know that the DVDs of theatre productions are rare, but after David Tennant's 'Hamlet', I hoped for another exception :)

The RSC quite often makes dvds of its productions - they're a bit of an exception. You can buy all sorts of wonderful productions from them going back years. Along with Hamlet they also filmed Ian McKellen as King Lear last year.
