am i even surprised? leave it to them builld up a great love story (with many flaws, which is why it's great) for several seasons only to shit on it in the last moments because they couldn't let go of their oldass ~genius planned ending~
i sometimes wonder how can the same people that gave us the journey that was swarkles, write that finale? it's insane, truly. (guess the only explanation would be they were so asses that led a big part of the audience to get ratings, money and such //what with all the cobie/neil photoshoots, interviews etc every season after s3 cause lbr, swarkles had a huge fanbase// only to see their ~original view~ executed after as many seasons as they could milk which makes them that much more dicks. except said ~original view~ was outgrown by their own writing through the seasons, it's like truly the definition of what.the.fuck. again, insane really)
So I watched it (is actually worth watching for the interviews with both the main cast and the minor cast members) I turned the sound off when there was a clip of the stupid future Ted scene at the end of the finale but aside from that I watched it all and actually enjoyed most of it. But CFB confirms that T/R was decided mid season 1 and not at the beginning because he thought they worked so well together and it was only then they twisted the story to make the mother dead. Ass. Also, I think it implies that right at the beginning they weren't even sure if T/R were going to be in a relationship (though that's debatable
( ... )
I didn't see the part about B/R what did they say?
I feel so bad for Cristin and this cast but it still upsets me that they just didn't care about what the actors put into these characters and what the audience loved about this show. It's appalling that these asses thought living in their dream world would pay off but it failed miserably.
Not masses, just Carter saying at the beginning they weren't going to do B/R because there was no way Barney would do anything with the girl Ted had declared his love for but then "Zip Zip Zip" came along, explored the idea and "Barney being Barney he made a move" and there was such chemistry between them that if they got past one season that could be something they showed at some point. It's not offensive really, at least it doesn't demean them, but it's truly pitiful given this is the main love story on the show.
Makes me want to scream BARNEY & ROBIN WERE THE MAIN LOVE STORY OF THE SERIES cause that's just how it was from the start no matter how you look at it they are the main love story and the story they told for 9 seasons was their story. From their friendship or broship if you will to falling for each other and growing and changing along the way
( ... )
In season 7- Ted asked Robin, "Do you love me". Robin pauses and says "no". She doesn't love him...! They made Ted so creepy and weird all because of CB's warped plan from years ago. They kill off the mother just so a person who doesn't love Ted and hasn't in years can get back together with him in 2030. I can't stand to listen to CB or CT and won't do it.
No, it is this it's so creepy and stupid all for a story they dreamed of years ago before the show became something entirely different than their stupid plan.
I went home for lunch today and HIMYM was on the lifetime network. It was the Robin Sparkles episolde. Ted couldn't keep Robin's fake secret about her getting married. Typical Ted. Makes me think about Zip Zip Zip- when Robin asked Barney not to tell anyone that she had a crush on Ted and and he didn't (of course). Ted and Barney are so different.....
Whenever I try and think of something Ted's done for Robin without expecting something in return there's very few, when I take out all the instances when Ted has made it very public so he can be thanked and "such a good guy," it becomes even smaller and when I take out the instances where he tells Robin to go get Barney and then goes back on it it becomes almost nill.
I can write a massive list of things Barney's done for Robin without expecting anything in return, some of them involving sacrificing something he wants and some he doesn't ever admit he's done for her.
There's not masses in it, but I think the most telling quote is “Somehow I never understood how much people cared about the show until how much people freaked the fuck out about the finale,” Thomas said. - this translates in undouchy language as "we were complete ignorant asses who didn't give a fuck about our show or our fans."
I wish there was more about what they said here, because it sounds like they were very much confronted about the failnale. But they seem very callous about it and it makes me want to punch them in the face.
ETA: there's actually more detail in the youtube comment I found the link on from someone who apparently attended this talk on B/R:
Apprently one of C&C's friends in their university was like Barney and he changed so much for a girl, they got married and C&C thought they had great chemistry....and a few years later they

Interesting about their friend, and I'm sorry things didn't work out for that couple, but even if they inspired Barney and Robin, they weren't Barney and Robin. If there were going to be a divorce and relapse for the couple in a work of fiction, we can't go on "they probably had other problems." We need to know. As Mark Twain said, the difference between real life and fiction is that fiction has to make sense.
It does shine some light, though, on how CB/CT made their choice, and if Ted and Marshall are self inserts, it makes sense that they would want to incorporate their other friend's experience, but in this fictive world, what happened to B/R in the finale doesn't make sense.
But were they ignorant and uncaring about what the audience who gave them a hit show would take away? Yep.
I actually think using their friend's divorce for unknown reasons is even more disgraceful, because whatever the reasons it's got to more than "the wifi doesn't work

I wouldn't be surprised if it's not something they just made up because they knew they'd be questioned on it - why else would it have not been mentioned in CFB's tweets?Exactly. He was grasping at any straws he could in those tweets trying to claim the AUE was "true to life". Why on earth would he then not cite a real life example that he had personal experience with? That would be the FIRST thing you'd mention, especially if you based the AUE on it

Here is some copies from Neil's book a HIMYM and Cobie sorry for the blurriness and the shortness of the pics I had to take it from my phone because I don't have a printer to make bigger copies.
These copies explain HIMYM and Neil being the one to make the first moves in the B/R relationship because he liked Cobie and thought that Barney would like her because of her independent/no relationships stans and because Barney's the same way. He goes onto say that the looks he gave her in the earlier seasons paid off because eventually that relationship turned in to the BIGGEST thing on the show and they of course end up getting married.
It's so sweet when Neil talks about Cobie I always love what he says about her and I love him calling her aunt Cobie that's how close they are.
First, thanks so much for taking the time to post these pictures.
Second, I absolutely agree with you that this is his diplomatic and guarded way of saying the finale sucked, the viewers hated it, and so did he. Neil has a very wry sense of humor that I share, and if I wanted to insult something in a backhanded, non-blatant way this is exactly how I'd do it. Phrases such as "just kind of....end" and "awkward pause" and "what a rip" speak for themselves, as do the very questions (and what they therefore loudly imply) of the finale not being met "with as much acclaim as the rest of the show" and it not being "universally satisfying". I mean no one says 'it just kind of....ended' about an ending that they enjoy.
You can tell even in the things he says about Barney's character and the B/R relationship that of course he hated the ending along with the rest of us. For one thing, he's admitting what we all already knew: a large part of the credit for Barney's iconic character goes to Neil himself (and a lot of it is derived from Neil'

It is diplomatic but in a way that clearly shows how little he though of the AUE. You know that CB/CT have read this, I wonder if this put a strain on their relationship with Neil? Wonder if they made any comments about NPH's book?
I also really like what he says about Barney's character. First of all, he understands (where CB/CT completely miss) the fact that Barney is in his words "a damaged cat", and saying that "as a friend of his I wanted to see him grow and evolve" (which is the same thing he said at PaleyFest, only that was right after the finale and he was even more harsh about it then) confirms that he gets Barney in a way CB/CT never did, and confirms that in his mind the worst thing possible for Barney would be to regress and lose all that growth and evolution. This says a lot about who knew, truly knew the Barney character and that was Neil. There isn't a doubt in my mind that he hated that crap of an ending because after so long he gave that character a new spin, a whole new and different version of who Barney was before when the creators created him and how Neil protraid him. He took that character and made Barney apart of him, he embodied that character and enjoyed seeing him progress and change from that one-note character the creators originally

That is the definition of selfless love.
