Lamb shanks

I hesitate in calling this one a "pie", because that's not really the point. It's mainly an excuse to eat puff pastry with one of my favourite meals: lamb shanks. I love puff pastry. I would eat it as a meal by itself. Combined with shanks it was perfect for the winter-ey weather we've been having lately. Mind you, you need quite the appetite to ( Read more... )

Lamb isn't cheap here, either, but I've been dying to give this a go since I had a similar thing in a restaurant almost 2 years ago! It's annoying, they used to give shanks away in butchers, now they charge through the roof for it.

Not related to the lamb, but to puff pastry: I used to go a restaurant because my in-laws took their parents out every weekend and we'd sometimes join them. I'm vegetarian and so I could eat almost nothing in the place, but they made this tomato soup that had puff pastry at the bottom and top of the ramekin and then baked it so the pastry got all warm and crisp. It was amazing.

That sounds absolutely divine! Though to be honest, I'd probably say that about anything with puff pastry. *blush*

That's okay, I'm the same way. I make pot pies with puff pastry instead of a regular pie style crust.

NOM.

Some people are eating well in Melbourne. It's such great weather for food like that ... and I don't even eat meat, lol.

I guess that's what veggie soups are for! I've been getting requests to make my pumpkin soup every week for months. To the point I'm getting a little sick of doing it haha. But soups are also awesome winter food.
