A/N: Double drabble. Set in my Ghost of a Chance ‘Verse.
When he was a boy, Ianto had never really considered himself the adventurous sort; he’d always preferred to bury his nose in a book. He’d liked reading about other people’s adventures, and watching movies, but that was because all the exciting stuff was happening to someone else.
By the time he was in his teens though, he’d been hanging out with more adventurous types, smoking, drinking, shoplifting, joyriding, getting into fights… It had been fun, he supposed, but he’d just been doing what was expected of a teenage boy growing up on a rough council estate. If only his old gang could see him now.
Some of them had entertained dreams of escaping the estate, but as far as he knew, Ianto was the only one who’d done it, heading for London to make a better life for himself. Back then he’d had no idea what adventures awaited him.
“What’re you smiling about?” Jack asked.
“Just imagining what the kids I grew up with would say if they could see how far I’ve come.”
Jack laughed. “Nearly two hundred light years from earth!”
“And piloting a spaceship. It’s quite an adventure.”
“And it’s only just beginning.”
“Life’s full of surprises.”
