About to pick up his tray, Ianto paused, closing his eyes as pain stabbed through him. It had been bad enough a few months ago trying to remember to make four coffees instead of five after Owen became the walking dead; now he looked at the five mugs on the tray, two more than he should have made…
It had been automatic, a habit ingrained over the course of several years satisfying the team’s caffeine cravings. A habit he needed to break now the team only consisted of three people, but it wasn’t that simple. Part of him kept expecting to turn and see Tosh busy with her computers, Owen napping at his desk, or bickering with Gwen.
Slowly he took the two extra mugs off the tray and went to empty them down the sink but stopped again. It went against the grain to pour away good coffee, it would be a waste, but much as he loved coffee he knew he couldn’t drink three. If he did that every time he made too many, he’d be bouncing off the walls.
“It’s okay,” Jack’s voice said behind him, “I’ll drink them.”
Ianto shook his head. “It’ll never be okay.”
