A/N: Double drabble.
Jack wasn’t much of a drinker, sticking mostly with water when he accompanied the team to the pub. After all, someone needed to stay sober, both to make sure the others got home safely, and to deal with any Rift alerts that might come in while they weren’t in a fit state to do their jobs.
While he was still waiting for the Doctor, he’d had another very good reason for wanting to remain sober and well hydrated. He hadn’t wanted to risk missing what might be his only chance to re-join the Time Lord on his travels on account of being passed out drunk, or too hungover to notice the TARDIS arriving.
There had been times in his past when drinking had been a way of life, and thinking back, he didn’t want to become that person again. He had responsibilities now, people who depended on him, and an important job to do. Maybe that meant he was finally growing up.e had responsibilities now
Still, there were occasions when he felt justified in taking a nip of brandy for medicinal purposes, or a glass of scotch after a particularly rough day. Alcohol wasn’t a problem as long as he drank in moderation.
