Xander loved Willow, she’d been his best bud for as long as he could remember; he couldn’t imagine his life without her in it. He loved her, but he wasn’t IN love with her, wasn’t ever going to be, which sort of sucked, because he wasn’t completely oblivious to the way she looked at him when she thought he wouldn’t notice, all dreamy-eyed and adoring.
Will had never been too good at hiding her emotions. She wore her heart on her sleeve, or maybe it was just that he knew her so well, probably better than anyone else did. There’d been no problem when they’d been little kids in footie pyjamas, but now they were teenagers, Willow’s feelings towards him had changed, while Xander still felt the same way he always had. He loved her as a friend, they were closer than brother and sister, but that was it. There wasn’t any spark between them, not on Xander’s part. As much as he cherished their friendship, Willow simply wasn’t his type.
He liked his girls sexy and sassy, with curves in all the right places, and Willow was still just… Willow. Cute as a button, but some girls just developed faster and more noticeably than others, and…
‘Okay, I’m shallow, the typical hormone-driven teenage boy, but I can’t help that, can I?’
Willow didn’t float his boat, but Buffy did, she bounced in such an intriguing way. Hell, even Cordy, a girl he’d hated forever, excited him more than Willow did.
But Willow was still his friend, and Xander didn’t want to lose that, so he pretended not to notice the looks she sent his way, treated her the same as he always had, and flirted with Buffy, talked about Buffy, dreamed about Buffy… Maybe Will would get the message.
