And whom do *you* ship for?

Mar 29, 2009 11:20

My mind has been whirling lately, thinking about retiring, eventually leaving behind everything I've (we've) known for all of our 5+ decades. I try to give the poor gray matter some respite, but at this time of the year (still grey, still just a bit too cold to go out in the yard and work -- damnit!), I don't have the pleasure of puttering around ( Read more... )

Chris Larrabee/Mary Travis. Michael Biehn again. ;) Are you sensing a trend yet?

Ya think? :-)

Great list - and you're right, it's pathetic how the networks jerk us around in the fruitless pursuit of the wrong audience.

I'm part of that evident majority (male viewers) who doesn't actually watch a lot of television anymore (I can name the number of shows I actively seek out on one hand since the NFL season is over).

So ... ships? The only pairs I have actively wanted to see together are Trip/T'Pol on Enterprise, Tony/Ziva on NCIS, and Luke Skywalker/Mara Jade from the Star Wars books. And given what they did to TnT on ENT & L/M in the SW books, and how they've dropped the ball this season (thus far) with Tiva on NCIS (my God, could they have nerfed Tony any more? I loath this immature moron who has replaced the skilled investigator of seasons past), I've consciously made the decision to never again get emotionally involved in the fate of fictional characters.

You know, Rigil, my husband hardly watches anything on TV any more, unless I inflict it on him (usually in the form of DVDs in the kitchen TV while we're eating). He'd rather read, and listen to the game on the radio (he's on pins and needles waiting for baseball to start -- so am I, for that matter, but I have other addictions to keep me occupied).

I started reading the early SW books, but "Replonza!" scarred me for life. I found SW fanzines shortly thereafter, and ignored the pro stuff that was out then, as well as the later EU stuff.

I'm about 6 eps behind on my NCIS viewing. I need to make time to sit down and watch them. But you're not alone in complaining about Tony's character this season. I don't have much hope for Tiva, though, not with the history the Bellisario shows have of treating ships (Bud/Harriet was an anomaly).

I agree about the demographics, these people regularly shoot themselves in the foot. I really think it's sort of funny in a sad way. TPtB want to gear a show toward an audience that borrows money from the people who actually watch the shows to go out and party on the nights they want their demographic to be watching.

As for shipping I prefer none, it takes something away from the team dynamic for me. Now if the show is about a relationship that is another subject entirely.

Aren't you missing one -- or are you not going there? :)

Will Riker/Deanna Troi.Took them long enough, and that ridiculous Worf/Troi detour still makes me want to wash out my brain.

Imzadi all the way baby :)

Commander Harmon Rabb/Colonel Sarah MacKenzie. Man,

Okay I'll admit to being in the Sarah/AJ camp on this one... But I'll accept Sarah/Harm

Captain Sam Carter/Colonel Jack O'Neill.
OMG yes! How could they not...

But the idiots who run network TV have one Holy Grail -- the male viewer. Whether or not said male viewer watches the show or not, those are the eyes they want staring at the screen -- disregarding the fact completely that the power of the purse resides in female hands in this country. You'd think even when they had/have a woman running a network that they would understand but it is still aimed at the male viewer in the 18-30 age bracket no less ( ... )
