This was SO interesting to read! I love statistics!

If you had asked me which fandom I'd expect to be more popular fic-wise, I'd say TVD hands down. It just feels more natural, given its subject and heavy focus on relationships and the ever popular world of vampires.

I really like the kudos option on AO3. And reading stories there, cause the site is visually nice, minimalistic and so easy to use. I do prefer reading comments on LJ if the fic is posted to both sites, cause I enjoy looking at avatars and cause I get the feeling that people used to post lengthier comments on LJ. What is your opinion on that? If LJ were still as active as it used to be, where would you prefer to interact with people?

What does comment threads mean? I thought it may be the number of comment pages, so I was really shocked when I saw Empty Handed has 52! :p

I know, right? I would think the same thing about TVD vs. TWD, but the truth is about 2 million people in the U.S. watch TVD and 16 million watch TWD; that doesn't account for international numbers, but it still gives you an idea on sheer numbers of people watching Zombies over Vampires. It's just that the Vampires have a much YOUNGER viewing audience, who are more vocal, so it seems like it should be more people, but it's not ( ... )

Wow, I had no idea there's such a huge difference in the number of people watching TVD vs. TWD. But you are right, younger audience plus different social media (most of all tumblr I'd say) leaves the impression of one show being much more popular than the other.

For a while when the popularity of LJ was declining, I was afraid people would start posting fan fiction on tumblr, but at least we have AO3 as a great platform for both posting and commenting. I was even fearing the popularity of fan fiction declining. So glad it hasn't happened!

Yay, so glad you're finding new friends to discuss TWD with! Sometimes I'm being evil and wishing something would happen to both Facebook and tumblr, so that I could have all my friends back ;)

I don't think people will ever start posting fic on tumblr on a big scale. It's just too damn uncomfortable to read there. So people might post drabbles on tumblr, but longer stuff is rare. Writers tend to post their stories on ff.net on AO3, and then give links on tumblr.

WOW, you were right -- the amount of traffic IS stunning. Hits and kudos are comparable to the VMars high I'm experiencing, but 52 comment threads? Mindblowing. I'm officially jealous!

IKR? I'm still astounded. It's so much fun! Reminds me why fandom used to make me happy!

Saved by Grace - one of my all time favorite stories. I can read it once a week and still be awed & moved.
