I know, right? I would think the same thing about TVD vs. TWD, but the truth is about 2 million people in the U.S. watch TVD and 16 million watch TWD; that doesn't account for international numbers, but it still gives you an idea on sheer numbers of people watching Zombies over Vampires. It's just that the Vampires have a much YOUNGER viewing audience, who are more vocal, so it seems like it should be more people, but it's not.

I've found that conversation on AO3 is just as productive as on LJ, when you're writing for the right fandom, LOL. I made my first TWD fandom bosom friend at AO3, so there you go. I think both work well, I just think LJ doesn't get the traffic it used to. I don't have a preference, I think both sites support conversation. But I do miss the avatars, too.

52 threads means there were 52 separate people to comment. I responded to every person who took the time to leave feedback, so some of the threads grew, but most of them are just their initial comment and my response.

The thing about the kudos is that on that particular story where I have 240 kudos, 165 of them are from guests--unregistered users! Just, crazy!

Wow, I had no idea there's such a huge difference in the number of people watching TVD vs. TWD. But you are right, younger audience plus different social media (most of all tumblr I'd say) leaves the impression of one show being much more popular than the other.

For a while when the popularity of LJ was declining, I was afraid people would start posting fan fiction on tumblr, but at least we have AO3 as a great platform for both posting and commenting. I was even fearing the popularity of fan fiction declining. So glad it hasn't happened!

Yay, so glad you're finding new friends to discuss TWD with! Sometimes I'm being evil and wishing something would happen to both Facebook and tumblr, so that I could have all my friends back ;)

I don't think people will ever start posting fic on tumblr on a big scale. It's just too damn uncomfortable to read there. So people might post drabbles on tumblr, but longer stuff is rare. Writers tend to post their stories on ff.net on AO3, and then give links on tumblr.

Exactly. And I find tumblr horrible for posting comments. I also noticed people tend to delete tumblr accounts often or change the names of their blogs. I save links to the fic I read, and I learned my lesson the hard way with also saving the fics I like. So many links are invalid now...

Yeah, saving links is a pain. You'd have to have your own account, and reblog them -- then you'd have them saved url changes regardless.

Luckily no writer I read posts on tumblr on a regular basis. It also has to do with me looking for stuff to read only on AO3 XD. I have a kindle, so mostly I just download fic. I'm getting too old to read long things from computer screen ;).

It is the worst, I agree. But that reminds, me I ought to do links over there.

I've tried reading (and posting) fanfic on tumblr, but it's not a good format at all, I dislike it immensely. So yes, I too am grateful for AO3!
