I think she was misinformed by someone incredibly dense in the kitchen. Souffles have A LOT of eggs in them... it's one of the primary ingredients, actually. Cheesecake is typically made with eggs as well, fyi
That was my thought too. It is possible that the OP and the waitress had no idea what a souffle was/what it involves. It would have set off alarm bells in my head though.
Eh, since she checked with the kitchen staff and they told her that the souffle cake was egg-free, then I don't think that's bad_service so much as it is egregiously_clueless_service.
I'm glad that you are now OK, but yeah--she was egregiously misinformed. "souffle" anything indicates (or at least implies) that egg whites were used in the making of the dish.
Well, she may not even had checked. I really don't know what happened. I just know I was told it was okay, and it wasn't. And I didn't know what a souffle was until now.
I guess I'll just stick to eating desserts at home.

Regardless of the kitchen staff or the waitress who made the error, should still be bad service.
Yeah, that's pretty bad. I have several allergies, though peanuts are the worst. I'm used to not being able to eat desserts at restaurants, although sometimes I will ask just in case. If it's not made on the premises, the waitress should tell you she can't guarantee anything.
Also, a quick Wikipedia search says souffle almost entirely consists of egg yolks and whites, which was my instinct and I have no culinary background. Even if they didn't know where it was made, I have to wonder if she even asked any of the kitchen staff.
I don't think it was the kitchen staff in this case, unless it's a pre-made souffle that the staff don't even touch, or they outright lied to the OP. There is no way anyone who made it would not know that souffles are almost entirely eggs. Either somebody lied, or the waitress didn't ask at all.
I was wondering if it might have been a miscomunication. As in the waitress asked, "Do we have a dessert that doesn't contain eggs", the cook heard, "Do we have a dessert that contains eggs" and thought to himself, "Souffle! Souffle's have LOT'S of eggs!"
And ironically, their fudge sauce has eggs in it too. I don't quite understand why. I know eggs made dishes creamier and fluffier, but fudge sauce? really?

It's like saying a poached egg is egg free.
