I think she was misinformed by someone incredibly dense in the kitchen. Souffles have A LOT of eggs in them... it's one of the primary ingredients, actually. Cheesecake is typically made with eggs as well, fyi
That was my thought too. It is possible that the OP and the waitress had no idea what a souffle was/what it involves. It would have set off alarm bells in my head though.
Well, I honestly had no idea that souffles were made with eggs. I trusted the waitress when she said that it was egg free.
I don't like cheesecake, so there's no worry about that.
Usually I don't order dessert when I eat out because of the possibility something bad may happen, but I thought I'd take a chance. Guess I should stick to eating dessert at home.
Heck, my husband is a celiac AND allergic to wheat. He has to carry an epi pen wherever we go. Fortunately, it's a pretty good time to be a celiac, as new options are cropping up all the time for eating out :)
For him, dessert is almost never an option when eating out, so I feel ya. He's been pretty lucky so far, and only has had one or two instances where something had to be fixed, or had to send back a salad because it had croutons on it.
I think an epi-pen would do me more harm than good though. Otherwise, I would keep one around.
I'm scared to find out what epinephrine may do to me because I make too much adrenaline and naturally have a high heart rate because of it, it sucks.
That reminds me, my boyfriend once asked me to try a Caesar salad. NEVER AGAIN. I had no idea that dressing had eggs in it. I know certain ones do, like Russian, but not Cesar.
I'm a vegetarian. I stay away from animal meat, gelatin (unless it's vegan), and cheese with rennet in it.
My logic is this.
If I won't eat meat of an animal, why would I eat the connective tissue/boiled bones of one? And kosher gelatin isn't much better. It has fish and beef skin.
My poor friend blamed herself for it, when I told her not to worry. I think she had a hard time taking me seriously while I was puking my guts up in her loo :(

It's like saying a poached egg is egg free.

I've never been served souffle, I've never seen souffle, I had no idea what it was until after I posted here.

Also, some idiot decided it was ok to put anchovies in a Ceasar dressing labelled suitable for vegetarians. /stabstabstab
