This rider used to have a solid position and a very admirable attitude with her horses but I feel like now she just kinda flings things together and puts it up on youtube without a second thought. what bothers me about the second video is the inconsistent pace she sets. those are little fences, there's no reason for him to canter to any of them. she'll trot to them then ask for a canter a stride or two out and all that's going to do is teach him to rush to the fences.

Man, that second video is just really sad. Poor thing has no business racing around those fences. I mean seriously? Less than 3 months since he's been backed? That kind of act is absolutely abusive in its expectations. This girl needs a good knock on the head.

I'm going to politely disagree and I wouldn't go as far to call it abusive. I think training in the UK is done a bit differently, from what I've seen than in the US (and I've lived, rode and shown both places). You bring in the 4 year olds, the trainer gives it 60 days (ish) and by the end they should be doing x-rails and lead changes, THEN you throw them out completely for the winter. They come in the next year, do light work, and then get thrown out. They may start doing the real "hard" training when they hit 6 - which is when it IS appropriate to be jumping higher and asking more, I am not saying that this is what the girl is doing, BUT I also don't think it's a catastrophe if a horse is popped over a jump or two when he is four. Pretty sure I have a George Morris article published in the 80s when he trains up a horse and says it should be doing changes and cavaletti three months into training

umm look at racehorses. They are started way to young and have tons of problems that come out of that and its perfectly legal for them to start running at 2!
