September begins

My stomach did a little flipflop this morning when I remembered that it's now September and I start school in 4 days.  I'm glad that I've had this time to settle in and adjust a little before my first day of classes, and it's given me time to finish assignments, get organized and study a little.

Yesterday morning I finished my last sociology assignment and submitted it (one day late, whoopee), then settled in to watch Harry Potter movies on my computer while I made up drug cards, organized my ESW study cards on a metal ring clip and enjoyed the a/c.  It was HOT yesterday.  Later in the afternoon I ventured out for a walk to the grocery store, and literally stopped in my tracks when I first walked outside onto the porch.  Feeling the heat, for a moment I considered not going but there was a good breeze so I carried on.

There's a health food store right on the corner down the hill so I stopped there and found some Rescue Remedy gum (for Fred) and pastilles (for me).  They sell organic food, natural cleaning supplies and toiletries, and have a really yummy looking fresh food bar.  The grocery store was only a block further down - just a small one but I bought a few things that I normally have at home like blueberries for my cereal, almond butter (for apple dipping), and a liquid soap pump (I just don't like using soggy bar soap to wash my hands).  Walking back to the house was brutal.  It was so hot, I was lugging several bags of groceries, and my calves were screaming from the hike up the steep hill (I come from the Flatlands ya'll).  My calves are still sore this morning, but it's a good kind of pain ;-)

I skyped with Jack and the girls last night as I always do.  Julia doesn't have much to stay and is happy to just sit there and watch me while everyone talks.  I'm sure she'll have all kinds of things to say once school starts!  Jack usually calls just before the girls go to bed but due to the time difference, that's also when I'm almost ready for bed and there's a whole lot of yawning going on.  Maybe we'll aim for an earlier call so that I won't look and feel so wiped out.

Thanks to google maps, I've looked for the nearest Staples store, Starbucks, and movie theaters. My hometown peeps will be glad to know that I won't have to give up my movie habits entirely as there is a quirky little theater right down the street and I've already checked out the upcoming movies (Hope Springs, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Take This Waltz,  and Ruby Sparks).

Today's big plans: walk to the nearest Go train station and check it out. I have to go there on the 4th for my hospital training day in Markham so I may as well see how long it takes me to walk there and find out where to buy tickets and such. It's just over a km and a half, and it's only supposed to be 26 today so it shouldn't be too bad. Also on the agenda, slog through the fetal health surveillance book. It seems a bit triggery for me and all the talk about acids and bases just hurts my brain.  Maybe I'll take my books out onto the porch with a cold drink later :-)

walking, hot weather, impp, at the movies, skype, getting around toronto, harry potter
