Thoughts on Iron Man 2 / Captain America Characters

On Wednesday, I went to see The Avengers again, with ice_Elf. And then we went again yesterday. :D And it was epic and awesome every time! (So technically, because we saw an afternoon showing yesterday and I saw a late evening showing last weekend - I've seen it three times in one week ...) I seriously can't wait for the DVD ( Read more... )

Yeeeeeeeeeaaahhh, it's been bothering me too. It's a bit sloppy of the writers, they could've fixed that easily... but I'm guessing we're meant to assume Tony was born later in Howard's life. (Maybe Tony wasn't planned, oh snap.)

So not just me then? Good. There are ways around it - but it still bothers me nonetheless! (Oh, dear. I can very easily see that being true ...)

First of all, have you seen the movie timeline Marvel has released? They don't give actual years, unfortunately, but they do at least say how much time lapses between certain events which is at least a little helpful.

According to that timeline, Captain America took place over a period of three years, presumably from 1942-1945 (which, I believe, would coincide with the comics timeline fairly well, since in at least a few of the canon universes they state that he was frozen just a few months before the war ended).

At this point in time, Tony Stark was a small child - from that glimpse of him we get, I would have said he's between 7 and 10. However, I just looked up the kid who played little!Tony and he was 6 at the time. So I'm going to go with 6.

Really? Because, when I saw that scene, I assumed Tony was supposed to be 4-6. He definitely didn't look to be 7-10 to me.

Making Tony 40 in Iron Man, 42 in Iron Man 2 and 44 in Avengers.According to the timeline Marvel has released, IM takes place six months before IM2, and then ( ( ... )

Oooo, thank you for the link! Also thanks for the explanation. It really helps!

"in at least a few of the canon universes" -- I love how, for pretty much every superhero, there are several canons existing simultaneously. It's cool. It also does my head in! D: (But yes, when I tried looking up dates and Wikipedia said the whole of Captain America took place in '42 to '43 that felt off. I mean, beating the crap out of Hydra would take time! So thank you for clarification.)

... I am (admittedly) terrible at judging ages. Terrible. This is why I've mostly gone off actor ages/ages I can look up in this post. I do not trust myself to guess with any degree of accuracy! So your comment is definitely fair enough ( ... )
