Zero Tolerance and Cain and Zero and Loose Cannon
Zero would have laughed if it wouldn't have meant his life. He arrived in The Sorceress' presence to find her with her arms crossed and one foot tapping on the floor. But given that she only kills when someone fails her, Zero was reasonably certain that she wasn't going to suck his essence dry or whatever. At least if he could satisfy her.
He stood at attention before her. "Sorceress?" his tone was pleasant, every day.
The Sorceress actually hissed. "They're alive!" she screeched. "Damn it, Zero! I can handle your unique way of doing things because they get the job done! The Cains! They're still alive!"
Oh. "Yes, Sorceress. Is there a problem?"
"One of the most powerful members of Resistance still alive!? What possible problem could there be?"
"I have a man by Cain's Tin Suit, he's alive but he's suffering."
"You SAID you wanted revenge! He supposed to have killed your family and you just let his live? I THOUGHT I could rely on you!"
"You're right. I wanted revenge and I got it. As far as Cain's concerned, his family's dead. I'm not going to punish them for the sins of the father. I lost my sister, Sorceress, and I got my revenge. You... know how I feel, don't you?" he ventured, looking for the other.
The Sorceress blinked. It seemed to take an effort for her not to respond. But she managed. "Mrs Cain has managed to take up her husband's duties. Take care of her. And Zero?" she added, stopping him from leaving. "Don't talk to me like that again. Understood?"
Zero nodded. The Sorceress called in General Lonot. "My loyal spies have found her for you," she told him, referring to her flying monkeys. "Bring her to me. Don't fail me, General."
"What about..."
"I've sent Zero away. It will take him some time to get back. Work fast, General."
