Portsmouth-Cherbourg. I felt like I was going to die, and for a while wouldn't have minded if I had - the worst thing in retrospect was knowing that it served me right for not taking the tablets!
(though they made me feel pretty groggy too on the way back, and I couldn't have driven at all that first day if I'd taken them, nor done any navigation. Maybe next time the solution is an overnight crossing with me drugged to the eyeballs)
Have a wonderful time in Naples with Sahib! At least you get to go once all the schools are back, so it should be quieter?... - no, hang on, you don't. More of August left than I realised, I can't count!

Your holiday sounds wonderful and I'm dead impressed that you managed to fit so much sightseeing in with small kids. It sounds remarkably relaxed!
Sahib and I are off to Italy next week to see Naples (and hopefully not die). I'm getting very excited!
