eta: like, what would even be the aftermath of that? How would Charles react? How would the Brotherhood react? Just. God. It hurts to think about, I need to find fluffy fic.

The government would keep the trial very hush hush and would carry out the execution just as quietly. Once they've confirmed Erik's death, they'd announce "Magneto is Dead" and humans would rejoice. News broadcasts would be as extensive as when Osama was killed. There would be arguments over the human/mutant alliance, etc. No human stops to think twice about Erik, about Magneto.
But Charles? Charles would pause in front of the television. He wouldn't quite understand and he'd be watching it over and over and trying to think--what? when did this happen? Something like guilt, or agony, or perhaps even fear would trickle into his heart. He will not accept it. Everyone in the school flinches when he sends out this huge pulse of sudden, hot, burning anger.
(How dare Erik do this? To pretend to be dead, play at his sympathies, his empathy and emotions. Because of course this has to be a lie; Erik, the only equal he's found, can't be dead, he's still out there ( ... )
