Listening to Jar of Hearts by Christina Perri, and god, all I can think of is
Erik comes back to the mansion years later, and begs Charles to forgive him and take him back.
Charles refuses, says Erik has made too big of a name for himself, that him being in the mansion will put his students in danger. And Charles can't risk loving him anymore, because Erik hurt him too much.
Charles tells Erik that he gave Erik everything, and Erik threw it back in his face. Erik protests and says he made mistakes and Charles says
"They weren't mistakes, my friend. They were choices, and you made them. You can't take them back,"
Erik is heart broken and tries to kill himself, only to be saved by Emma and Raven, who nurse him back to health. But Erik has lost his will to fight, and turns himself in.
They sentence him to death. His last thought is to Charles, and it's
"I hope that this makes your world a safer place."
I'd request this on the meme but I think it would literally kill me to read actual fic of this. Also, aftermath, with Charles. I don't want to read that because I have no idea how this Charles would react, and fuck. Excuse me while I go cry from just contemplating this scenario.
