Chapter 1/4: http://avery-averette.livejournal.com/2345.html

Drifting back to reality, Takki was slightly taken aback to hear ‘True Heart’ playing on the radio. It was the duet hit from their debut album, Hatachi. Listening to it, Takki drifted back into the dam of memories. As memories overflowed, he could feel his eyes cloudy again. He remembered it like it was yesterday when he nervously invited Tsubasa up to join him in what would be their first duet during the ‘Johnny's Juniors FIRST concert’ way back in 1999.

Despite his longstanding animosity against Tsubasa, Tsubasa readily agreed.

As they were running down the aisle, soaking up the ear-deafening screams from the maddening crowd, Takki looked over his shoulder. He was heartened to see Tsubasa, by his side. Despite his leader status, he was actually terribly shy. But having Tsubasa with him, he felt very secure. He was not alone.

Maybe it was the folly of youth, headstrong and willful, he believed that he had the power to override the jimusho’s decision. The decision  for him and Tsubasa debut individually as solo acts. Thinking back, Takki felt so weak and useless now. A complete coward.

He had fought so hard then to convince Johnny-san to let them debut as a duo. Foolhardily and recklessly, he rallied their fans to support his decision. The campaign lasted for about a year. Nearing to the official announcement, Johnny still insisted that they would debut as solo artisite. But eventually, a fateful turn of events. At the press conference marking their supposed solo debut, the two astounded the media and public by declaring that they would debut as a duet after all. Together.

That was seven years ago. Who was going to support him now? Support his love?

His love... he wondered when it happened.

'When did friendship give way to these tender feelings?' Takki thought and felt his his lips form a slight smile. He was surprised that he could still smile. But then thinking of Tsubasa always had that effect on him. Even though it was bitter not being with him, the memory of him, of the times with him made it at least bittersweet and bearable.

Reminiscing of the times when they were together, the moments they shared, he searched his memory for clues of when it happened.

Was it when Tsubasa stayed over his place and made him his favourite pepperonchino pasta, just the way he liked it?

Was it when Tsubasa would always pick up his calls no matter how insanely late or however exhausted he was? Braving bitter cold and drousy sleepiness to pick him up in the middle of the night, just to see him home safe after a party.

Was it when Tsubasa contentedly rolled all over the new double-sized bed that he had bought so that his older friend wouldn’t have to bother with futons every time he slept over, which was very often?

Was it when Tsubasa unintentionally planted a sloppy, alcohol-induced kiss on him after one drink too many?

Or was it when Tsubasa unconsciously wrapped his arm around him when they slept? Takki remembered how his hand would always naturally start stroking Tsubasa’s arm. His fingers lightly and blissfully travelling the length of that warm arm lying across his chest. Further savouring the togetherness, he would gently turn to Tsubasa. Noses almost touching, he would breath in deeply, envisioning them sharing the same breath.

Takki still couldn’t figure out when it happened. But one day, comfortable familiarity became butterflies in his stomach.

Comments? *Showering hugs and kisses.*
