‘No. You can’t have him.’ Johnny-san was adamant.

……

It was only when he was in the solitary confines of his Ferrari that Takki buried his head low, allowing his bursting tears to fall. And fall they did, pooling at his feet. With his trembling knees hugged close to his chest, he sobbed uncontrollably. Sobbing and shaking so hard, he couldn’t breathe. He was gasping for air. It was a torrent of tears that simply refused to stop.

‘God, please stop this pain. Ergh… God, please…. I beg of you. Please….’

Still, it was a while before the prayer took effect. But finally, he calmed down. Breathing again.

As he felt the last of his tears trickle down his now drenched face, he softly whispered, ‘Tsubasa.’

Collecting himself, he drove out of the jimusho. Driving carefully down the wet road, Takki tried to focus on anything but the episode earlier. But it did not help that it was pouring. Weather like this makes him very vulnerable. He longed for company, for someone to hug, to hold onto, for some warmth against his lonely skin.

He remembered a time when that warmth was so easy, so readily available. He didn’t even have to do anything. Even standing still, Takki could sometimes feel Tsubasa accidentally brush against him. Being so close together every day, it was impossible not to accidentally bump into each other, skin pressing against each other.

They were always in such close proximity then. There were days on end when they would wake up seeing each other and going to sleep in each other’s company. But they were 13 then and now they’re 27.

Sadly, familiarity breeds contempt. After a few years of sharing the same punishing workload and insane schedule, he started hating everything about Tsubasa, from his voice to the way he looked. Damn, even the way Tsubasa breathed offended him. It was quite beyond him now how he could ever find anything to disapprove in those large fluttery Bambi eyes. But his teenage self couldn’t stand the sight of Tsubasa, much less talk to him. He avoided looking at him or speaking to him, even in front of the camera. If they made contact, his looks were filled with scorn and his words laced with acid. How could he possibly be so unkind then to someone that he would love so much now?

He didn’t cherish those moments then. Now, he would give anything to go back to those times.
