Mixed Feelings

Today I found out I'm not deploying to Iraq with the unit. Basically it boils down to the fact that Recon doesn't rate to retain 0311's (riflemen) who aren't actively training to become 0321's (reconnaissancemen) and some folks with heavy collars got in a tizzy over it. My 1stSgt tried to keep me for as long as he could, but in the end it was out ( Read more... )

<3 don't worry baby we'll be alright, and I'd rather have you here than have you in Iraq making big bucks.

Well pumpkin, since the last estimate I heard would be 8 to 9 more years, I think you'll have your time in the sandbox...

Maybe... my unit just went last year and won't be going again (after this year) in the forseeable future. At this point I'm not planning to stay enlisted beyond 2008, so it's kind of iffy I don't go with a MEU or something.

RIP is Recon Indoc Platoon, aka RTP (Recon Training Platoon), aka RMAT (Recon Marines Awaiting Training). Basically you train for an undetermined period of time to prepare for Amphibious Reconnaissance School where you actually become an 0321.

Well, mi hijo, I can not say that this news makes me sad. Actually, it makes me wanna dance in the streets of Panama. One of us having been in a war zone during this go around at life is more than enough and I prefer that it was me and none of my kids. I am now, always have been and always will be PROUD of the man and Marine that you have become. Your dedication to Honor, Duty, God and The Corp are more than enough. Dancing the M-16 tango is not all there is to serving.

Besides, my ulsers would do a number on me from the moment of deployment until the moment of return.

Love ya mi hijo,
PanamaPapa
