It's been a late-autumny weekend with cool temps and gusty winds tossing the fallen leaves through the air. I've spent most of the past two days here in my apartment, settling in for the winter I guess and getting the place ready for faeryshaman to move into in a couple weeks. I think with all the week's stresses I really needed some regrouping and ( Read more... )

Have you read Dreams Underfoot? I liked that much better than The Onion Girl, or any of de Lint's novels, now that I think about it.

If you like de Lint, I also recommend Guy Gavriel Kay, particularly The Fionavar Tapestry and A Song for Arbonne.

I second the recommendation for "Song for Arbonne". Brilliant book - I couldn't put it down.

"Memory and Dream" was one of my favourite De Lints, but I haven't read the Fionavar tapestry yet. I've heard it's fabulous, though. Gaiman's "American Gods" is a must-read as well.

mmm, Neverwhere. Chris used to read that to me as a bedtime story. Of course, it took a long, long time to finish. I agree with the poster above, you should check out "American Gods" as well. :)

Yay! Neil Gaiman!!! "Neverwhere" is an *excellent* book; Door is one of the best literary characters ever. I love her.

I concur with Adriane and the other poster-"American Gods" is a phenomenal book. *love*

Just FYI, Neil Gaiman is very good friends with Tori Amos; she even mentions him in at least one of her songs, though I can't remember which one. In fact, he made her a tree in one of his other novels, "Stardust" (another good one; it's about a guy that goes into the realm of Faerie).

Can you tell that I love Neil Gaiman just a little bit?

*hugs*

I've read "Stardust" and really enjoyed it. But I didn't know he was friends with Tori. I'm still a newby at this Gaiman stuff.... *wink*

And yes, I can tell! *laughs*

*hugs*

Stardust was adapted for the stage and ran here in Chicago recently. I loved it! :)

Tori mentions Neil on "Beauty Queen/Horses."

"And if there is a way to find you
I will find you
But will you find me if Neil
Makes me a tree"

:) Yay for Tori.
