Am I mentor material?

I started mentoring a first grader at school today and discovered that this kid has no idea about how to read, I mean, my mind was blown at how much this child struggled. My son is in kindergarten, so going in I thought I'll just do with this kid what I do with my son, we'll read a book, I'll read the hard words and have the child sound out the ( Read more... )

THANK YOU for the encouragement. I came away rattled from that first mentoring session because I have no experience with a child who struggles so hard with reading and I was honestly wondering whether I can make a difference. I really appreciate your experienced opinion that you think I can.

I would love to get a copy of the lightening words. And can you recommend any good word games we can play? I know DK do educational games, I was going to look at what they have.
