I'm back! Missed you all but had a wonderful time, we had some of the best weather we've had at the cottage all years - days when the air was warm, the sky was blue, the lake was smooth as glass and warm, perfect for swimming and canoeing! We did one lazy canoe ride along the shoreline where it was surprisingly shallow and sandy, and perved on some ( Read more... )

Welcome back girlie, I've been missing you!

Sounds like the cottage was exactly what you needed, apart from the sunburn! I remember your hair parting used to burn all the time too, or were you a good girl and wore a hat? ;)

At least now you're not working you can spend the time you need to in preparing for all-you-need-to-know-about-Studies-in-Education, or, OISE!

Ha. Ha ha. Ha. I did wear a hat actually, one of Adam's, but my scalp is permanently burnt I think. Although, here it tends to fade a bit over winter, but as soon as the sun gets that bit stronger, BAM red again. And it doesn't go away all summer. I know I should wear a hat more but I hate getting a sweaty head - makes my scalp itch!

Can't you hear Dad, getting stuck into you about skin cancer etc etc etc......

I'm the same as you though, either I wear a hat (bucket hats are best!) or I use spray on sun block. It's a clear spray so you can't see it - marvelous stuff!

Speaking of Dad, it's late notice I know but Father's Day is this Sunday. It's a different time of year over there isn't it?

Yeah, they have it the month after Mother's Day - wow it's September already! I forgot about Father's Day, there's no advertising or anything to remind me. Are you taking him out or anything?

I was going to say that we haven't had a dishwasher since newwaytowrite September 2 2008, 04:19:29 UTC
March 15th 1999 but when I think about it...we have had one since August 11th 2006.

We just don't use it. We have had some of the best laughs of our relationship standing together doing the dishes at the kitchen sink.

And now we have a window to look out when we do the dishes so it is terrific.

We don't use the dishwasher because it doesn't do a good job ( we tried it out twice) and well the water use and being on septic.

I grew up in a house without a dishwasher. My Mom did get one of those units that you rolled up to the sink but we only used when we had lots of company and could only put certain things in...so there was always pots/pans/good china and the like to wash at the sink.

I did grow up with a dishwasher - it was the one "extravagance" my low-income family had, and it made a big difference. Too many kids, too tired, not enough time and all that. I'd never done the dishes until I was sixteen. We don't have a nice sink set-up like you, we have a very badly designed kitchen and we do the dishes about every three days and it takes us an hour - we take it in turns and it's very much a one-person job. A good dishwasher uses less water too.

Glad to have you back! Sounds like your trip was a nice mix of reading, learning about UV rays' effects on your legs (sorry I couldn't resist), and relaxing.

I know how it feels to end a trip being thrown into the Academic lion's den. I'm sure the nice people will help you defer your fees (just don't call them SoBs until AFTER the paperwork is finished). ;)

I am lookign forward to hearing more from you in the near future, but I also realize that you will be extremely busy, so I'll take whatever I can get. ;)

Oh I know all about the effects of the sun on skin! I'm quite pale and burn very easily, and I never tan so I don't bother trying. Though that does tend to make my skin more susceptible to burning - at least I won't be all wrinkled and saggy from too much tanning when I'm 40! (No, I'll just have scars from getting the little cancers burnt off - wow am I being pessimistic or what?) My shins are covered with these tiny little blisters and yesterday I was just idly scratching them and they all burst and lymph came out - gross huh? But oh so satisfying! (What is it about us that we love to pick scabs, pop pimples and burst blisters? Maybe it's hard-wired into us to get rid of blemishes, or maybe it's our grooming instinct left over from the monkeys?)

I'll probably be able to keep the blog up-to-date, but it'll be harder finding the time to visit my online friends - I seem to have a lot more of them these days, and I don't like neglecting them!

A pinch of pessimism is never a horrible thing...just don't mistake a TSP for a TBS. ;)

(I'm not a tan person now; nor will I ever be one, so I won't have to worry about either looking orange or getting all of those fun cancers that the vain people continue to die from.)

I'll never feel negelcted if you don't get back to me. Besides if anythign exciting happens, I'm sure I will mention the event more than once. :)

TSP, TBS? I just keep thinking of the infamous "TPS Report" - what was that from? Office Space or something similar :D

You have a pasta maker.

I do not.

That is just Not Fair.

:p

But anyway, you know how much I sympathize with the the idiot people at college/university wanting to make things so much more difficult than they need to be...but it will work itself out. God I didn't think I'd ever get where I am now--and here I've been down here three weeks already!

Happy three week anniversary! Of sorts. I hear you, I still can't quite believe I got accepted, and that I'm about to actually start. I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I still have the old fears based on lack of confidence - all the reasons why I never wanted to be a teacher before are still there, I just have more confidence that I can deal with it. I just think I don't have enough confidence to really excel at this. Well, I might, but I find it's better to undersell myself (to myself) than expect more than I can reasonably give - that way I always surprise myself! Make sense? Not really? :)

Makes perfect sense. I am always optimistic for my friends in their ventures (not just saying that to be nice, I really have confidence that things will work out for all of you) but in my personal life I am completely pessimistic.

*Hugs*

Same back atcha. Just want you to know that you're one of the most wonderful people I've met, online and off, and I really value your friendship (I feel like we know each other in person - not too creepy?), and I want things to work out for you and, especially, I want you to be happy. I'm proud of you and you've achieved so much already. Oh and the cats say hi. Either that or they want me to do something for them... Nah, they're saying hi ;)
