Kaylee loved the hours she spent with River. River was the closest to Kaylee's age on the ship, and she loved talking to her. Now that Kaylee knew that Mal was in town as well, she was getting excited.

"Hungry, Kaylee? Got a surprise for you."

"Yeah I am hungry." Kaylee replied, her stomach growling. "Surprise? What?!" she asked in puzzlement, turning her head and watching River leave the room.

Kaylee's eyes closed while River was gone, relaxing, leaning back on the couch. Her eyes fluttered open as she sensed the lights dimming and looked around, noting River by the lamp.

"Hurts my eyes,"

Kaylee nodded, accepting the reasoning easily. The grin on River's face did puzzle her, but she grinned back, assuming she was just being playful. She looked down at the little container River slid into her lap and opened the lid, gazing at its contents. She gasped happily upon seeing the plump red berries.

"River! Thank you!!" she exclaimed, gripping the young woman in a bear hug.

"Always want one," River murmured. Leaning closer, she opened her lips, bringing them just within reach of the strawberry. Taking a bite, River closed her eyes, some of the juice dripping down her chin. The strawberry was moist, juicy, almost perfect. She didn't lust after the strawberry as much as Kaylee did, but it was sweet, and she was enjoying it.

Her finger moved up to Kaylee's neck from her shoulder, gently rubbing it against Kaylee's soft skin. "So sweet," River whispered, licking her lips. "Tasty..." Her eyes opened and she s tared up at Kaylee.

"Always want one,"

Kaylee smiled as River didn't take the berry, but leaned over and bit into it, juice running down her chin as well as dripping over Kaylee's hand. Kaylee giggled, grabbing a kleenex from the table and wiping her hand and then reaching out and wiping River's chin.

Kaylee shivered as she felt River's hand move up from her shoulder, goosebumps forming on her arm as the girl stroked Kaylee's neck gently. Kaylee turned her head to find River staring at her, in something like adoration, or longing. The look startled her, but in a good way.

"So sweet. Tasty..."

Kaylee blinked. Now Kaylee was wondering whether River was talking of her or the fruit. Either way, Kaylee's heart had skipped a beat. "Uh... I..." she tried to speak but was confused by the look in River's eyes and stayed silent, waiting for the girl to make a move.

River reached out, wrapping her hand around Kaylee's wrist, so she couldn't pull it away. She didn't grip too tightly, just gentle enough to keep a hold on her.

"You?" River opened her mouth and began to suck on Kaylee's fingers, the ones that had been holding the strawberry. Her eyes, however, never left Kaylee's for a minute. Her lips were turned up in that mischievious smile. She didn't want to scare Kaylee. No, the fact was she had always loved Kaylee, but Kaylee only had eyes for Simon. When she was done licking Kaylee's hand clean, she settled back on the sofa, about an inch away from Kaylee.

"There are more strawberries. Aren't you going to have one?"

Simon had the longest day at work. He just wanted to get home and spend time with Kaylee and River, catching up, talking, laughing, relaxing. He'd wanted to forget about work, about his patients, and focus on the two women most important to him in his life. He smiled as he left the clinic that day, heading for the car and making his way through downtown traffic towards the house in the hills ( ... )

River knew that he was home, the minute he pulled in the driveway. Now, the smart thing probably would have been to remove herself from Kaylee when she realized big brother was home. That would have been the smart thing to do. That was not, however, the fun thing to do. And she was all about having fun. Too many things had been too serious lately.

Coyly peering over her shoulder at him, she licked her lips, her eyes finding his. "Hi, Simon..." Moving over a little, she settled more beside Kaylee, resting her head on her friend's shoulder. Her hand went down to Kaylee's knee, rubbing it with her fingers. She loved watching Simon, the look he had on his face. And the bulge that would be quickly building in his pants.

She heard the tremble in Kaylee's voice. Silly Kaylee. Need not be worried. Need not be angered. More like, curious, at that. River couldn't decide where she wanted to look, Simon or Kaylee, so she eyed them back and forth. Like a tennis game. "How was work," she purred.

Simon walked into the house, leaving all of the things he'd brought in from work in the corridor. He dropped his briefcase, kicked off his shoes and hung up his suit jacket, making his way further into the house. He wondered where River and Kaylee were. He hoped that Kaylee hadn't been up and about too much, it wouldn't have been good for her ankle, and that River had just taken the day slow, reacquianted herself with the young mechanic.

As he made his way into the living room, he announced his arrival, being completely cut off when he noticed the sight in front of him. River. And Kaylee. Kissing?!

His eyes widened and he watched the two of them pull apart, seeing the content look on River's face, as though nothing out of the ordinary had happened, and the shocked look on Kaylee's face. He swallowed thickly, trying to get his quickly hardening arousal under control.

"S-Simon.. W-when... h-how long have y-you.."

"I just... I didn't... I wasn't..." he mumbled.

"Hi, Simon... How was work?""Good," he replied tightly. "Work was ( ... )
