(
Let me rub that... )
As he made his way into the living room, he announced his arrival, being completely cut off when he noticed the sight in front of him. River. And Kaylee. Kissing?!
His eyes widened and he watched the two of them pull apart, seeing the content look on River's face, as though nothing out of the ordinary had happened, and the shocked look on Kaylee's face. He swallowed thickly, trying to get his quickly hardening arousal under control.
"S-Simon.. W-when... h-how long have y-you.."
"I just... I didn't... I wasn't..." he mumbled.
"Hi, Simon... How was work?"
"Good," he replied tightly. "Work was good."
He walked slowly, almost awkwardly toward the two of them, trying not to let his arousal show. He took up a place near the couch in his favorite arm chair, looking at the two of them intently, unable to look away. What he'd just witnessed had both scared and aroused him, and at that point he wasn't sure which of the two emotions were winning.
"What were you two..." he cut himself off.
He just couldn't bring himself to ask.

"I just... I didn't... I wasn't..."
Kaylee was slightly relieved that Simon sounded as shocked as she was, her increased heart rate slowing the tiniest bit.
"What were you two..."
Kaylee's cheeks began to redden, she could feel the heat rising. She glanced at River, about to try and answer, but she didnt know what to say, or even if her voice would work. This was certainly an interesting situation to find themselves in...

River looked down to Kaylee, then back at Simon.
"You're not happy... Why? You love her, you love me? I love her, I love you. She loves you, she loves me. Loving in one circle, always flowing, bonds never breaking? What's wrong with that?"
River stared back and forth between them, not sure what was going on? Why couldn't they all just love each other?

"Simon, if you have to ask, you didn't do well in your medical studies, did you? Copulation, learning by touch and feel instead of wording and language. Loving and caress, comforting Kaylee and making her smile."
"I don't think all the studies in the thirty allied worlds could tell me what it was I just saw," Simon said slightly huffily.
It had been a rhetorical question, really. Just saying something for the sake of saying it. He knew perfectly well what he'd seen, he just didn't want to admit it to himself. He glanced at Kaylee, hoping she could offer him some insight. Instead, River's words cut through the silence again.
"You're not happy... Why? You love her, you love me? I love her, I love you. She loves you, she loves me. Loving in one circle, always flowing, bonds never breaking? What's wrong with that?"
"I'm perfectly happy, River, I'm among the people I love the most in the world," he said tensely. "It's just... this... we can't... I'll leave you two to what you want to do."
He was afraid to be excited by the situation. River was his sister for crying out loud. Sure, they'd shared a few moments, a few touches when they were younger, but then he learned how wrong it was and it hadn't been the same since. Now, old, familiar feelings were rising in him and he didn't know if he could face them. He didn't know if he could embrace her as a woman, not his sister, along with Kaylee. Oh, he could easily embrace Kaylee like that and God knows he had in the past... but his meimei?

"Not wrong. You leaving accomplishes nothing." She wanted to reach out for him, but she would only scare him, that she knows. A heavy sigh escaped her lips as she looked at him.
"We, as a family, the three of us, share the love, but love has to be given, not taken, not forced. Then it's not love. Then it's harsh, cruel, like what they did to me, taken. Not love anymore." Her bottom lip trembled a little. "She doesn't fit here. One plus one doesn't equal three. She was wrong to think it did. Mathematics and logic always overrule." River took a step back, looking back and forth between Simon and Kaylee. She moved quietly to the doorway, watching them intently.
"I'll go. For now. Leave you two... to just be."

Kaylee felt tears prickle her eyes. What had she done? Her coming here had broken the bond between the young woman and her brother. Shooting a saddened, apologetic glance at Simno and then at River, Kaylee was aout to rise and leave as River walked towards the doorway.
"I'll go. For now. Leave you two... to just be."
"No... River..." Kaylee managed to find her voice, choking out the words. "This is my fault. I'm the one that should leave." She rose carefully and limped towards the door, trying to ignore the throbbing pain in her ankle. She passed River without meeting her eyes and climbed the stairs painfully, eventually reaching her room and collapsing on her bed, tears in her eyes.
