Bones archive question / Bones fanart / meta linkage

Sep 02, 2009 14:54

I received a question about Bones fic but I'm too out of touch with the fandom so I'm forwarding it to my friends list: Are there any good Bones fanfic archives where authors can upload fic? Back during S2 or so I had pondered making one using the BBFA's code, as that would've required only minor twisting. But then someone else mentioned they ( Read more... )

Thank you kindly. :)
(I wish I hadn't been so crazy lazy for the past two days and actually gotten some art done...)

Oooh, Servare Vitas and your Bones art! Such a great combo. ♥ Thanks for posting this! Sadly, I am not part of the Bones fandom these days either, so I don't know if there are any archives.

Yeah, I haven't read in the fandom in over two years. Ironically, just about the time I left, a few good writers found their way in, looks like. Ah well, in SGA I have all the great fic I could ever wish for... :)

We have a Bones archive at DBFandom, but it's not one people can upload to themselves. They can email stories to us at the link provided on the page, though.

Your archive is selective though, right? Or do you upload every story that's sent to you? (I haven't read the fic in question myself.)

There has to be an auto-archive. It seems weird that a show with a considerable fanbase doesn't have its own archive outside ffn.

To be honest we've not been sent any - so far everything is what we've asked permission to archive. The idea was that there was some kind of standard. I've never found an auto-archive but then I've not really been looking!

I found the sarahtales post very fascinating as well, especially in light of recent events in certain fandoms that shall remain nameless!

While it's unfortunate that we have to scrutinize our likes/dislikes more closely if it's a female character, I also think we *should*. There are both male and female characters (and character archetypes) that I just don't like and probably never will. But I have also caught myself treating female characters unfairly on more than one occasion -- most recently with Gwen in Torchwood. It's easy to jump on a bandwagon, and those bandwagons seem to get rolling much more easily with female than male characters!

Perhaps you meant to say this?
"...and those bandwagons seem to get rolling much more easily with female than male viewers!"

Er ... I can't tell if you're joking here or not, in which case sorry for being obtuse :), but I said what I meant to say. The hate-bandwagon-piling-on is something that I've mostly seen happen to female rather than male characters. (Not exclusively -- I can think of male counter-examples, but they're much, much rarer. Actually, off the top of my head I can only think of one. No wait, two, both of them in anime fandoms. Whereas without even straining myself I can think of a good dozen female characters who've gotten that treatment, and that's just in the fandoms in which I'm active right now ( ... )

Semi-joking :)

"...most of my fannish experience has been in mostly-female fandoms..."

Sort of tangentially my point of observation. It seems most of them are (at least in the LJ way as opposed to the ST convention way).

I do remember a bit of a flap in the Spiderman comics realm. JMS of Babylon 5 fame was surprised by the level of hostility to Gwen as he wrote her.

BTw, about female and male fandoms, that's a reason I'm lukewarm about OTW -- from this guy's POV they seem to overreach in effectively claiming all of fandom under the mantle of a sort of feminism, which to me seems dismissive of the male-heavy domains (which may more stretch the standard conception of 'fandom' as mostly fic-centered plus some visual art & mashups).

Oh, and I forgot to say, even though I haven't seen Bones so I have no clue who these characters are, I really adore your solid grasp of car "anatomy"! (friendshipper hates drawing cars ...)

Hah. I once drew a car for from imagination, and someone say, "Cool, the front is a Mercedes and the back a BMW." And I'm like, what, people pay attention to that stuff? Good thing there's Google images, I know nothing about cars. I know that mine is blue, and my friend handles all the maintenance (while I take care of the computer stuff).
