Life's a set of choosing our handling methods for OUR comforts. Headphones and other sensory "filters" are oxygen purification when the world's overload is poison. So we seek those filters as OUR comfort. Which sadly conflicts with folks not sharing our POV. Brings us back to those choices WE make to be comfortable colliding with the comforts of others

Sorry for not answering your actual question, but what about playing the music on speakers so that you can hear both the music and your father's comments? I get that you don't want to have to respond to him, but he might be less angry if he knows you can hear him. And the music might calm him down, too.
As an alternative, if you want to use headphones, why not listen in your own room with the door closed, so it's clear you're now having "alone time?" It does seem a bit antisocial to listen to music on headphones in the presence of other family members or friends.
Also, what cello group are you listening to? Sounds like good music.
That's a good idea, but if I put it on speakers it belongs to everyone and I get REALLY agitated when someone turns off or changes the song right in the middle of something I'm listening to. I might try that though.
I have been listening in my own room today, but I'm afraid closing the door isn't much help in giving me privacy. My father comes in anyways, and if he does ask if he can come in if I say no he yells at me. And I'm not allowed to lock it. Last time I did he threatened to kick me out. :(
The group is called 2cellos. :) they do a lot of cello renditions of well known songs (like Micheal Jackson's "Smooth Criminal" and Coldplay's "Viva La Viva"). It's great.
It's called 2cellos, and they tackle more mainstream songs with a traditionally classical intrument which thrills me deeply!
**EDIT** I apologise, I forgot to answer the rest of your inquiry! Yes they DO have music on Youtube!
Yes, I do live with my father, but I don't think I can move out. I have no job, no drivers license. No real independance, and no confidence that I could look after myself at this time.
No I haven't brought up listening on speakers, but when I've tried that in the past I've found it makes me very nervous and agitated when someone turns my music off in the middle of a song or changes it.
The problem is not that he doesn't see the headphones. they're not the earbud kind, they're big and highly visible. I'm perfectly willing to respond if he gets my attention, but he seems to be expecting me to always have my attention on him when he's in the general vesinity, which I find taxing.
Thank you for the suggestions! Yes, you have adressed what is bothering me.
