Lady Problems

Long story short I don't tend to get a regular period because of the pill I take, and when I do it's generally super light and almost painless. About a week ago, I started my period out of the blue, it started off with A LOT of bad back pain, which hasn't eased up at all and i'm bleeding quite heavily - or at least heavily compared to what usually ( Read more... )

I tried to Google it but the results are weird. I did find a couple of people asking if iron supplements can cause heavy periods, so you are not alone. But other articles said that heavy periods are a symptom of iron deficiency, so you should tale a supplement. So what I'm gathering is that there is some relation between the two, and maybe your unusual period is somehow related to the supplements

Even though you can't see a doctor for two weeks, will they let you talk to a nurse on the phone? The nurse might be able to at least tell you whether this is common and not to worry.

Yeah thats what i heard. thing is, my anaemia is more diet related than period related because I don't GET a period. its just weird how when I start taking a supplement all hell breaks loose, which isnt really good since the more blood I lose, the slower my pills will work!

No, they dont do phone calls here. its bullshit.

I hear you! I am severely anaemic as well. My periods are horrible, they have no idea why right now. I took myself off the iron this month to see if there is a difference. I am playing the waiting game right now.

No, no, not at all! If nothing is better by monday (and it is getting worse. Ive been lying in bed all day now, I can't get up without being in immense pain) im just going to go to A&E and cause a scene if nobody sees me.

I know the pain of NHS!
Defo go A&E if you need to, don't suffer in silence for 2 weeks! You may have to wait a while until they can see you but you WILL be seen eventually, and on that day, not 2 weeks from then.

also check this website. You probably already know if there's one near you, but this site enables you to put in your postcode and see if there's a walk-in centre close to you. I'm lucky to have one right by me and it's a god send for stuff like that!

No experience with iron supplements, but I have plenty of experience with horribly painful periods. If you're taking painkillers (and really, you should be) take ibuprofen at the max strength (400 mg over here). Ibuprofen is a muscle relaxant as well as a painkiller, so it's better for cramps than paracetamol. NEVER take aspirin, that's a blood thinner and makes your period even worse. Also, heat pads or hot water bottles tend to help a little bit with the pain.
