2008 Review: Books, Websites, Misc.

Books

Websites

I <3 Facebook. It’s actually useful and fun and I will admit to profile stalking people I know/like. But it’s amazing to get the chance to connect and re-connect with so many people you’d think you’d never hear about again.

This site makes me happy. It made my computer happy too, because I can watch The Daily Show, or 30 Rock or The Office or Burn Notice and I don’t have to worry about taking up valuable disk space. They’re a little spammy sometimes, but I don’t care.

Yes, I do feel like a nerd sometimes when I admit that I have a blog, which is kind of rare in my school, but I love it. My journal keeps me sane; it’s about having a ranty place to go to, which is wonderful. And friends. Awesome, awesome friends, who support and care and are the most fantastic people ever. And icons and fic and all the opportunities this community has. I don’t know what I would do without it.

Random Awesome Things From 2008

My Job:

I love my job. I love making coffee. It’s dorky, but I love it. I know I rant about stupid customers and little things, but I am so beyond thankful to still have a job, and to be working in a store with such freaking fantastic people. It’s a blessing.

2008 Election:

This ties in somewhat with The Crucible, because we had a performance on Election Night and I remember sitting and knitting and I turned the radio on and found out what had happened and I met my co-star right as she cam off/back-stage and told her and we had a moment of pure joy in the pitch-dark green room. It was fantastic. I’ve never been as invested (or more upset that I’m too young to vote) than this election.

The Crucible:

I played the role of Rebecca Nurse in our school’s fall production of The Crucible by Arthur Miller. It would be impossible for me to fully explain what being in The Crucible meant to me. It wasn’t my plan and it wasn’t what I expected for my Senior Year, but it was so, so much better. I love being a part of this group and being a member, for reals, of the Drama family.

Meeting Libba Bray (author of The Gemma Doyle Trilogy):

(that’s me!)
Pretty much made my life. She came to the Powell’s right by where I work (literally, connected to the same mall/building). It was right after The Sweet Far Thing had been release and I brought all of my Gemma Doyle book and got them autographed. Ms. Bray is a truly remarkable lady, in addition to being a fantastic author, she’s funny and smart and strong.

Oregon Coast:

My summer vacation trip, to Newport, Oregon. I love the coast.

Essex, Montana/Glacier National Park

My family and I took the Amtrak train to Essex, Montana (the only flag stop left in the US, dontchaknow) to witness my last unmarried Uncle get hitched. We also got the chance to visit Glacier National Park in Montana, which was beautiful

Oregon Storm 2008

We just had some crazy weather in Oregon. The worst storm in 40 years. More than a foot of snow, plus some freezing rain. I made an ice castle. The entire last week of school was closed.
